I travel a lot and may not have all items listed here.
"Happy art" is what comes out of me naturally.
I realized this during a difficult and dark time when I was looking for meaning and a way to make sense out of senselessness. What I realized was through it all, I still made "happy art". It hit me like a ton of bricks that positivity and happiness was my natural take on life and that I should go with it. And so I did and SERIOUS WHIMSEY was born.
I've always loved color, painting, pattern and patchwork. Whenever I come across a magic marker doodle from my childhood I am so happy to see how much I still relate. It makes me feel like I have always known what I know today about my interests, strengths and "smart eye" as my husband calls it. I see the journey. These days, I love combining my more sophisticated art with art for kids. I am inspired by the natural beauty of our world, the colors and sounds, the delicate petals of a crimson flower, leaves, pods, plants, animals and the texture and depth of all interesting natural surfaces. I look for inspiration everywhere. My eye naturally gravitates toward layers of color and texture. I love the magic of life and my connection with people. I love doing shows because I enjoy the diversity and energy of the people I meet. I love sharing stories and promoting kindness, connection and positivity. I believe in me and I believe in you.
Some of my pieces are painting with collage where I incorporate original patterns from my earlier days as a textile designer. Look closely and you will see elements of photo silkscreen, hand stitching, applique, hand dyeing, etc.. Many of these patterns became my first fabric collection which came out commercially in 2012.
Hard work, big dreams, faith, HOPE, and never giving up despite life's challenges are extremely important to me.
For me, losing hope is losing it all. May this never happen to you.
Follow your dreams. So corny and true. Be true to who you are.
You never know what will be coming round the bend!
That excitement of the unknown fuels me.
I hope my work will make you as happy and hopeful as it makes me.
Lots of great things are brewing for SERIOUS WHIMSEY!
Check in often to see what new goodies I have in store for you!
The most exciting additions are my new lines of felted products and cotton fabric collections featuring all of my art.
My collection of art panel blocks, mini quilt kits and fabric DIY kits will be growing in the months to come. My personalized felted banner business is booming and I am adding more colors and other felted craft supplies and accessories as well.
The past two years I have been focusing on the fabric and quilt world. I am self producing a line of 14 continuous fabric designs and will be adding 10 new designs each season. These designs will be limited runs each year and only available for sale from me here on ETSY or at various quilt shows around the country when shows return after the vaccine for COVID - 19. The quality is amazingly soft.
I do have a small space in a retail shop in RICHMOND. VA. Please email or call me if there is anything specific you would like to see at the shop. I do not put the fabric or prints in there right now although I do have a basket of prints under a table if you are there! The shop is more of a baby gift business and I carry a lot of wonderful lines for children such as MILKBARN, YO BABY, ANGEL DEAR & MAGNIFICENT BABY, JELLYCAT, BLUE Q and more!
If you are interested in setting up a wholesale account for my art on paper or licensing my work for your company please convo me for more information.
Thank you so much for visiting

5 out of 5 starsI received the second one and the colors are beautiful. Trying to find matching colors to surround it for a lap quilt.

4 out of 5 starsColors in some blocks are muted and seem to run into each other. Not a huge distraction and it is still very attractive and useful for my purpose (Cover for my sewing machine.) Fast shipping and great service!
Shop policies
I would like to clarify something about my print dimensions as I have had some recent inquiries of late. Even though I call my largest print on paper size 11 x 14, the truth is the print is a little smaller, 10 3/4 x 13 3/4. Without trying to sound long winded I have done this for a number of reasons. First, I call it 11 x 14 so you will know what size frame to buy if you are not going to mat it. But the truth is, most frames have a lip on the edges which tends to cover part of the edges of the art so after much trial and error and various complaints about the 11 x 14 size not fitting in a 11 x 14 without covering part of the art, I decided to reduce the art slightly and allow the white border of the print to fill the "lip" area of the frame. It works beautifully with the frames I tried it with. Please also know that my prints come on an 11 x 17 sheet so you must trim the top and bottom if you are going to frame it without a mat in an 11 x 14 frame.
If you are buying a standard 16 x 20 mat for your print, the openings are usually a standard 11 x 14. This is what has caused concern for some people lately but the truth is I have never had any complaints that a standard mat did not work. If you find your mat does not work with your print I will gladly ship you a 16 x 20 one that does work upon request. The price is $15 plus shipping. Since I never know how someone will frame my work, I had to find a happy median which works in the majority of cases.
I have put an awful lot of thought and effort into this decision and hope it makes sense.
If you have any more questions please convo me and I will be happy to explain further.
Thanks so much! carter
Accepted payment methods
Returns and exchanges
As for the canvas, I am sorry but I cannot accept returns on these items as they are custom made and very costly to make and ship back and forth. Please try and see me at a show if you would like to see these items in person.
Thank you!
Payment
Please allow one week to two weeks for me to ship prints on paper. Although I try to ship much faster than this, sometimes I am out of town doing shows so that may explain the longer delivery time.
All print orders are shipped priority mail with delivery confirmation in a flat box and the prints are packaged in a protective sleeve with backing board.
The giclees on canvas will be shipped UPS and if in stock will be shipped within the one week time frame. However, if a canvas is not in stock please allow three weeks for delivery as they are custom made and shipped directly from my printer.
Shipping
I do not ship internationally at this time as I have not found an affordable outlet for this but I hope to explore some options this at a later date.
Additional policies and FAQs
As for the custom pieces, I do custom originals sometimes but am very busy and this process can take up to 6 months.
thanks so much
