Childhood Dreams and Second Chances
I have been artsy and crafty my entire life. I've always wanted to have my own shop and even participated in booths at various shows and craft malls over the years. Then in 2007 my dreams changed with the diagnosis of stage two Breast Cancer. Now, eight years later, I am cancer free with new perspectives and goals for the second half of my life. Through intense therapy one of my counselors encouraged me to get back into making my art. He helped me to set up shop here on Etsy and so "Southern Yankee Arts and Crafts" was born.
Now known as "Southern Yankee Handiwork and Findings", it's newness is turning into a full time hobby. I draw my inspiration from childhood experiences and the newness of life reborn. Bright colors, whimsical items, and lots of crochet work keep my hands and mind busy. Recently I even added my handi-capable blind sister-in-law to the crochet team! Together we both benefit from our wonderfully therapeutic crochet works.
When I burn out on handiwork then I go shopping for vintage items that catch my fancy. The end results displayed in the shop always delight me because they're better than what I had envisioned! I truly am seeing my dreams come true with Etsy. Having a shop became a reality as well as a life saver. I hope as you browse my little shop that my zeal for life and happiness finds you too.
Enjoy your life and never forget to support the arts and your favorite charity. As a Breast Cancer survivor I appreciate it. :)
Owner, Maker, Designer
I am celebrating 8 years as a Breast Cancer survivor with my love for life, child like whimsy and the eclectic. Creativeness is in my blood as well as my American Indian heritage. I am also a first time Nana!
Dana is legally blind due to glaucoma and other various ailments. She still has an incredible knack for mixing and choosing yarns and colors that make up her fabulous large Granny Square Throws. Her works are rich in texture and warmth.
