My sidekick Daisy. Alas, she passed away March 3rd of 2018. 17 years was a great run for her. I do so miss her.
Dreams and Second Chances
I have been artsy and crafty my entire life. I've always wanted to have my own shop and even participated in booths at various shows and craft malls over the years. Then in 2007 my dreams changed with the diagnosis of stage two Breast Cancer. Today I am cancer free with new perspectives and goals for the second half of my life. Through intense therapy following cancer treatment one of my counselors encouraged me to get back into making my art. He helped me to set up shop here on Etsy and so "Southern Yankee Arts and Crafts" was born.
Now known as "Southern Yankee Handiwork and Findings", my therapy has turned into a full time hobby. I draw my inspiration from childhood experiences, my American Indian heritage, and my life reborn. Bright colors, whimsical items, and crochet work keep my hands and mind busy. Evolving disabilities continue to slow me down but I'm not giving up!
When I'm not crafting I enjoy shopping for vintage items such as tins and handbags. The "fruit of the hunt" is sometimes displayed in the shop. I actually have more in my stash NOT displayed as yet.
Here with Etsy my dream of having a shop became a reality as well as a life saver. I hope as you browse my little shop that my zeal for life finds you too. Enjoy your life and never forget to support the arts and your favorite charity. As a Breast Cancer survivor I appreciate it. :)
