Pearls Before Breakfast is a celebration of pearls and their versatility--the only piece of jewelry that can be worn anytime, anywhere. Pearls Before Breakfast is a call to seek out and recognize beauty in unexpected places. And Pearls Before Breakfast is an homage to an incredibly moving, Pulitzer-prizewinning article of the same name by Gene Weingarten. You can find it here: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/04/04/AR2007040401721.html. If you haven't read it yet, go read it now. I'll wait. :)

Any orders not paid within 3 business days may be cancelled per Etsy's non-payment policy, and the item will be re-listed.

Shipping
All domestic U.S. orders ship for FREE, via USPS Priority Mail with delivery confirmation. Priority Mail shipping times are usually 2-3 business days, but are not guaranteed.

I will ship in-stock items within 3 business days, and will send you the tracking number promptly. Custom orders will ship within 4-6 weeks unless otherwise noted, and I'll update you on the progress of your custom order regularly.

Unless otherwise requested, I will ship to the Etsy invoice address. All items are carefully and securely packaged in tissue paper and are shipped in new Priority Mail boxes.

I do not regularly offer expedited shipping, but if you need something faster than Priorty Mail can guarantee, please contact me BEFORE purchase and I will try to accomodate your request.

International shipping via USPS Priority Mail is a flat rate of $15 for the first item, $5 for each additional item. Customs fees and import taxes are the responsibility of the buyer. Shipping internationally will go smoothly most of the time, but every so often a package can get stuck in customs. Pearls Before Breakfast can’t be held responsible for these delays. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Refunds and Exchanges
Returns on in-stock items are accepted within 30 days of the purchase date for store credit only, less a $5 return fee. Buyer is responsible for return shipping. (Earrings ARE accepted for return/exchange; earwires will be replaced before being relisted.)

Returns are not generally accepted on custom orders, however if you are unhappy with your purchase, please contact me and I will see what I can do to make it right.

PEARL CARE

Pearls are fragile, and should be handled gently! Most importantly:

- Store your pearls flat. Do NOT hang them from a necklace organizer or display. The bag I include with every purchase is a great storage bag for your pearls.
- Do not get your pearls wet. Water can cause the silk thread to weaken and stretch. If they do get wet, gently dry them with a soft cloth and leave them to dry lying flat on a towel overnight. Do not hang wet pearls or wear pearls when their string is wet.
- Perfume, hairspray, makeup, and other cosmetics can damage your pearls. To avoid these effects, pearls should be the last thing a woman puts on before going out and the first thing she takes off after returning home.
- Pearls scratch easily. Try not to store them touching other jewelry, especially metal or faceted stones.

Cleaning Pearls

Because of their delicate nature, special care must be taken when cleaning pearls. If your pearls get dirty, you can wipe them with a soft cloth very lightly dampened with water.

- Only use jewelry cleaners labeled as safe for pearls.
- Never use an ultrasonic cleaner, a steam cleaner, or any type of soap other than pearl-safe jewelry cleaner.
- Never use toothbrushes, scouring pads or abrasive materials to clean pearls.
- If the string gets wet during the cleaning process, gently dry them with a soft cloth and leave them to dry lying flat on a towel overnight. Do not hang wet pearls or wear pearls when their string is wet.

Restringing Pearls

Has your pearl necklace broken, or does it appear stretched out or dirty? While the silk thread I use is the best (and most traditional) stringing material for pearls, because it can be knotted between each bead to protect it from damage (rubbing against the other pearls) and loss (if the strand breaks, knots prevent the loss of more than one or two pearls), it does stretch, dirty, and weaken over time, and thus will need to be replaced every so often over the life of your necklace. Pearls that see frequent wear should be restrung every year (less often for less frequent use, as needed).
