This small journal is absolutely beautiful and is made out of the BEST quality. I bought this journal to use as a sort of small photo album. I have mini Polaroids, so I plan to fill this journal up with them! I am so happy that I was able to purchase this item in time, (there were only two made!) If I ever need another journal, I definitely hope that AnchorRoad is still around. JM

About

Handmade books and art created deep in the heart of Texas

I live on the outskirts of San Antonio, Texas, where we sip sweet tea and mint juleps while listening to the song of the cicadas and the cooing of the mourning doves. The sky is big and the sun streams into my work area where I create everything while looking out at the trees. I love the water and being on the water and I am lucky enough to live near a lake where I can sit on the dock and enjoy the view. And it's true what they say, the stars at night are big and bright deep in the heart of Texas!

My Materials and Process:

I am the sole artisan in my studio and I do everything myself here, from cutting the leather and paper to (sometimes) dyeing to punching, riveting, and sewing, everything is done by me. I paint and print every piece of art and I pack it all up to send to you. I am a completely self taught artist in leather work, painting, rubber stamp carving, and block printing.

My Leather Books and Accessories:
I love leather, which is a material that has been used throughout all of history for durable, lasting quality. Classic leather goods are always in style! I work primarily with leather remnants, finding leather not available elsewhere, so that you can be assured your books and are unique! I use fine American made 100% cotton rag writing paper for my journals, both Crane's and Strathmore. In my family we have a saying "You can never have too many notebooks!", and I believe this is true. All of human history has been recorded in the equivalent of a notebook. You need one too so you can document your contribution to humanity. :)

My Art and Stationery:
I use both Stonehenge cotton rag printmaking paper for my prints and 140 lb cold press paper for my watercolors. All papers used in my shop are acid free, so your art work will last a long time.

I primarily started linocut and stamp making because the process of printing without machines has always intrigued me. Over the years, I have carved many many blocks as well as hundreds of my own rubber stamps.

When I paint, I tend towards Impressionism in my acrylics and soft abstraction in my watercolors. I like to recreate dreamy scenes from places I have been and places you'll want to be. I believe art should transport us to somewhere more magical.

My work has been featured on Design*Sponge, the Nate Berkus show, CountryLiving.com and the Huffington Post.

WELCOME! And thank you for stopping by Anchor Road! :-)

MY HANDMADE PLEDGE: I certify that every item is handmade by me and me alone. All my items are made one a time.

MY MATERIALS: I use new leather hides and leather remnants. My remnants are all new! They are what is left from larger pieces that have gone on to be chairs, saddles, and even designer handbags! I also use vintage buttons, some are never used "new old stock" and some lived a long and useful life in various and sundry items of clothing. I use acid free paper unless otherwise stated. Please also note that even new paper may contain microscopic pigment flaws. I always use acid free glue for my books unless otherwise stated.
