Love this print so much, it's probably my favorite in the nursery. Also appreciated that it came with mounting board.

About

Who says getting older has to mean growing up...

I can't tell you the exact moment I decided I wanted to be an illustrator. I expect it was there around the age of 9 when my life consisted of "rescuing" any animal that showed its face in our garden, trying to get shop bought eggs to hatch and attempting to become the neighbourhood dog-walker. (My parents wouldn't get me my own puppy and even worse wouldn't get me my own penguin!)
It always seemed like an unrealistic fantasy; something just for fun and completely separate from whatever I might actually end up doing.
I was always creative, always making art: entering every drawing competition I could find and I was even frequently told I was quite talented.

As I got older and my passion for all areas of art grew, I took a foundation degree at art school and found myself specialising in illustration. Suddenly I wasn't the little girl whose sweet pictures of her pets seemed charming to all the adults around her anymore. Everyone here was serious. Everyone here had been practicing all their life too. Everyone here wanted their edgy design styles to feature in magazines. I just wanted to draw cuddly animals for children's books. My work got lost and with it so did all of my confidence.

I faded back towards general fine art and although I was still always crafty and creative whenever I could be, I couldn't settle on any style or media that seemed to suit me.

Then I went travelling. Packed a bag and set off on my own. Over two years I explored 5 continents and was lucky enough to work up close with some wonderful animals along the way. On my return I began trying to capture the personalities of some of my new furry friends. I realised that I didn't need to compare myself to anyone wanting to be a commercial media illustrator. It is, and always was, perfectly acceptable to want to draw cute cuddly animals for children (and big children at heart). My passion was reignited and 'Penguins and Paperchains' was born. (Named because let's face it; you can go to every continent on Earth and you'll never find a cuter animal than penguins!)

So here I am. Somewhere between the little girl with dirt in her hair and paint on her hands and a real life illustrator. Hoping that some people out there might enjoy looking at my creations as much as I enjoy making them.
