The Story of Penelope Howarth & Penny Pottery
Penny is a ceramic artist and student of the world renowned Falmouth College of Arts in Cornwall, United Kingdom. Penny grew up in a remote Cornish coastal village, on her "commute" to study her craft, she would board a Ferry each morning and cross one of the deepest estuaries in the world. The dark rolling waters and jagged Cornish coast providing a strong source of inspiration for her work. Many of Penny's pieces recreate the sea and the communities of Cornwall; fishing boats, harbours, granite stone manors, cottages precariously perched on the cliff tops. Each work is a view into her formative years, growing up in Cornwall.
Penny started creating ceramic art in the 1990's. Only recently founding Penny Pottery in 2020. Her work can be found in galleries in Surrey & Cornwall and, of course, right here.
All designs are completely unique, one of a kind, produced in very low volume. Items are hand stamped with the PJH Penny Pottery "pot" logo. Items are listed on a "record of provenance" (available on her website) in order to provide history and help protect buyer investment. Nothing is created from molds or templates which mean blemishes from the artists hands provide charm. The artworks are crafted with high quality clay and glazes and fired in the artists own kiln in a workshop at the bottom of her garden. The kiln is electric, powered by a renewable energy provider.
In a world dominated by mass produced items, it is refreshing and exciting to own a hand crafted item, knowing that it has been created by an artist and is uniquely yours. Art for you to enjoy and pass down through generations.

I am a full time artist. I trained in ceramic art at the world renowned Falmouth School of Arts in Cornwall, England. I am also a pottery tutor at a local college.
Custom and personalised orders
I love to hear people's ideas and can often help bring them into reality. Send me a message with thoughts, measurements or even drawings you have made and I will work on a fair price for your bespoke art piece.
Wholesale availability
I am happy to provide wholesale orders to shops that wish to display and sell. I request that my name and details are included in your display or website. I am happy to have provided to a number of small shops all over the world. Please contact me for more details.
Care instructions
I high fire all my items which makes them stronger than mass produced ceramic items. As strong as my items are, they are still ceramic and as such will chip if hit hard or dropped. I use high quality glazes. The glazes I use in my mugs, bowls, etc are always "food safe". My items can be put in a dishwasher with no risk of damage.
