The History of Penny Pottery
Penny is a ceramic artist, having studied at the world renowned Falmouth College of Arts in Cornwall, UK. The Cornish coast is a strong source of inspiration for Penny, many of her pieces recreate the sea; the fishing boats, harbours and cottages precariously perched on the cliff tops where she grew up.
Now living in Surrey, UK. Penny founded PennyPottery and sells via local galleries in Surrey and Cornwall and now for the first time on Etsy. All artwork is hand-built and finished in its entirety by Penny alone. All designs are completely unique, one of a kind and produced in low volume. Items are hand stamped with her logo. Nothing is created from molds or templates as such it is normal to see small imperfections in the finish. The artworks are crafted with high quality clay and glazes and fired in the artists own kiln in a workshop at the bottom of her garden. Energy is sourced from a renewable provider.
Art for you to enjoy and pass down through generations.

Frequently asked questions
What are your environmental credentials
The items are fired in a kiln which uses energy from a renewable provider (i.e. Wind, Solar), all shipping material (envelopes & bubble wrap) are either biodegradable and/or recyclable.
Who makes your items
All items are made by me - Penny. I do not resell anything. Everything is handmade and hand-built.
Are your items slip cast in moulds?
No - I do not slip cast any of my items, slip casting is a mass production technique which removes the charm and uniqueness of each of my pieces.
What is your background?
I am a full time artist. I trained in ceramic art at the world renowned Falmouth School of Arts in Cornwall, England. I am also a pottery tutor at a local college.
Custom and personalised orders
I love to hear people's ideas and can often help bring them into reality. Send me a message with thoughts, measurements or even drawings you have made and I will work on a fair price for your bespoke art piece.
Wholesale availability
I am happy to provide wholesale orders to shops that wish to display and sell. I request that my name and details are included in your display or website. I am happy to have provided to a number of small shops all over the world. Please contact me for more details.
Care instructions
I high fire all my items which makes them stronger than mass produced ceramic items. As strong as my items are, they are still ceramic and as such will chip if hit hard or dropped. I use high quality glazes. The glazes I use in my mugs, bowls, etc are always "food safe". My items can be put in a dishwasher with no risk of damage.
Sizing details
If you would like to buy a few miniature houses but would like specific shapes or sizes, please send me an email and I will be happy to send you a photo prior to you ordering.
