One of the biggest benefits of having an all natural playmat is that it is washable! If it gets dirty, just throw it in the wash! Because these mats are made with natural fibers, there may be some shrinkage when washed, especially if they are washed in hot water or dried in a hot dryer. Many of my customers find that putting the mats in the dryer gives them a little extra "puff," but if you want to ensure less shrinkage in your mat, it's best to wash it in cold water and line dry it!

What makes a Peppermint Pinwheels play mat better than all the rest? I make my mats from heavy, canvas weight fabrics and they are padded with the thickest cotton batting available. They are quilted over-all in a diamond pattern to keep the padding from shifting, and the edges have been double stitched for added stability. These mats are made be used and made to last! They are also 100% washable with no cover to remove and free of flame retardants or any other nasty chemicals. Whenever possible, I source materials from manufacturers in the US. These playmats are easy to fold for travel and storage and handmade by me.

The amount of padding that people feel comfortable with is a bit of a tricky question, as it's so subjective - everyone has a different comfort level! Each layer of padding is about 1/4" thick, but the best way to describe the padding of the playmats is to think of a pile of wool blankets: A single padded playmat is like having 2 stacked wool blankets, the double padded mat is like having 3-5 wool blankets and the triple padded mats are like having 4-7 blankets. While it is as thick as many commercially made activity mats sold in the US, it is not padded like a foam mat, as it is not made from foam, but from natural materials. This has the added benefit of making my mats 100% washable!
