My brick and mortar studios are now in coastal North Carolina and Tucson, Arizona! In my studios is where my sketches become reality in the form of jewelry, bowls, plates and sculptures. My studios are also home of the Original Woven Art Glass Jewelry. My favorite mediums are glass, fiber, and metal. Everything is carefully handcrafted by me using the highest quality American made art glass supplies such as glass sheets and frit (crushed glass).

I design and produce fused glass bowls, plates, wall hangings, fused glass jewelry. My woven pieces are TRUE glass weaves, made with weaving molds which I make specifically to achieve more complex weaves, it's the textile designer in me which inspires me to go beyond a simple glass weave. Furthermore, to achieve my final design the glass sometimes goes up to four or five heating processes, sometimes reaching kiln temperatures of about 1500 degrees Fahrenheit.

About

Weaving Dreams

I was born in Lima, Peru and during my early childhood I lived throughout Peru, from the big city, to the mountainous rainforest, to the dessert coast. At the age of 10, I moved to the US with my family and lived in rural North Carolina. After living in NC for many consecutive years I dreamed and longed for traveling and made it a goal of mine to travel and get to know the world. So, my travels did not end in the US, after graduating from North Carolina State University I took a position as a handbag and shoe designer in Peru. Here is where I immersed myself back in my native culture, and got introduced to fused glass. After a few years of living in Peru, I moved to Italy and traveled around Europe. I learned Italian and got a fashion design degree. My travels did not end there, I also have lived in Puerto Rico, Utah, Missouri and currently live in Arizona with my family. My love for travel has played a definite role in my curious nature which in return have played a big part in my artistic development. My designs are often influenced by colors found in nature and by the diverse landscapes I recall from my travels.

Since the day I learned the basic glass weaving technique I haven’t stopped weaving with glass. Each piece I create inspires me to make another one laterally sparking my curiosity and love for color and technique. In return, my first woven glass piece has become a catalyst to an endless chain reaction of intricate and complex woven glass art. To achieve a true glass weaves, I incorporate my textile design knowledge to create specialized molds that take the glass through different heating processes, sometimes reaching kiln temperatures of about 1350°F.

My professional training is in textile design, I hold a BS in Textile Technology from NCSU. I also hold a fashion degree from Istituto Callegari in Italy. Furthermore, I have extensively trained in the art of glass fusing and it is in this wonderfully manipulative medium where I incorporate my knowledge of weaving and pattern making to make my art glass.

Currently, I work from my home studio. I design and produce art work for juried art shows, galleries, and for commissioned requests for both residential and commercial locations; specializing in woven fused glass, traditional fused and kiln cast glass. I am also enrolled at the University of Arizona where I'm pursuing advanced art studies. Please visit my webpage at www.perlasegovia.com to get a glimpse of my wall sculptures, table sculptures and art glass jewelry line and thank you very much for stopping by!!!

“I hope you enjoy my work, that it sparks your curiosity and instills in you the desire to create.”

Sincerely,

Perla Segovia

CUSTOM ORDERS
-------------
Dear Customer,

I see every art project as an exciting adventure that I can’t wait to embark. My goal is to provide you with unique, one of a kind art pieces. If after browsing through the gallery you find your favorite piece has already been sold, I can customize a similar piece upon request.

Customizing a similar product, for instance, may consist of varying the glass color, type of weave, it's functionality, but still maintaining the design concept. Since all the pieces are hand fabricated there is always going to be minor variations. Also, you may expect slight variations on glass color and weave structure. At the end, these variations do play an important role in making a unique and beautiful piece of art.

You may place an order for a ready made item or for a custom order by contacting me at perlasegovia [!at] perlasegovia.com. If you prefer to communicate via telephone instead of email please include your phone number and at what time would be most convenient for you to discuss the design.

I look forward to hear from you.

Sincerely,

Perla Segovia
