Announcement   HOLIDAY ANNOUNCEMENT: There may still be time to receive bracelets in time for Christmas in the U.S.! If you have placed an order after 12/17, I strongly recommend choosing Priority shipping at checkout because USPS can be slow this time of year. Please message me before ordering to ensure I have the supplies to make what you need in time to ship before Christmas. Please don't assume your bracelet will arrive by Christmas if you have not communicated with me OR if you chose First Class at checkout! I am working as hard as I can to ensure your presents will be ready to gift on Christmas morning. :)

Welcome to Philosophias! You will find handmade beaded leather wrap bracelets, stretch stone bracelets, belly button rings, and necklaces. I love making chakra pieces and using natural materials. 100% of my pieces are handmade by me. I also loan 20% of profits to Kiva, an organization that helps people around the world kick-start their own businesses.

Please note that sales do not include custom listings.

Please make sure you refer to the sizing chart when choosing a size!

When I first opened my shop, I promised myself I would set aside 20% of the profits for a good cause. After about 6 months of donating to a charity, I learned about Kiva loans and immediately made the decision to start lending through Kiva instead. Kiva connects lenders with borrowers worldwide who need money for everything from college tuition to much-needed housing improvements to business expansion. In short, these are loans given to people so they can get a head-start on their lives that they couldn't do otherwise. As someone who has studied humanitarian aid and development in depth, I truly believe that this is the best option because it enables people to improve their own lives on their terms. It calls to mind the old proverb "Give a man a fish and you can feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you can feed him for a lifetime."

Loans are almost always paid back. I will then reinvest the money into a new borrower as long as my shop is open. It’s truly the gift that keeps on giving. I have been so fortunate to have access to funds to kick-start my Etsy business, and I want to be able to help others kick-start their dreams as well. Check out the site here: www.kiva.org

About

"Work is Love Made Visible"

It all started when I was making too many bracelets to give away or wear myself. I had a problem: I needed to create. It is in my blood. But I also needed to find someone who could love, use, and appreciate what I make. And thus, Philosophias was born.

It wasn't meant to be a business. It was just a creative outlet... at least in the beginning. But soon after starting, my drive took over and I began tirelessly working to develop Philosophias into what it is today.

Almost 4 years after I began my little hobby shop it has turned into one of the most important aspects of my life. I absolutely love it. I get to use my creativity, drive, love for natural materials, and compassion for others at once - and I get to call it a job.

A little About Me:
I am now a proud college graduate bearing two degrees in subjects I love: Religious Studies and Global Studies with an International Business emphasis. I am also a certified Ashtanga yoga instructor and ESL teacher. My passions are sustainability, problem solving, conflict resolution, introspection, learning, yoga, travel, adventure and, most of all, helping others (in short: I plan to save the world!).

At heart, I am a nomad, environmental enthusiast, and humanitarian. I live for experiences and take every chance I get to educate myself, help the planet, travel, and do good for others... even if it means foregoing many of the comforts I grew up with. I live to love, I love to learn, and I learn to thrive.

I am currently working on a graduate degree in Professional Counseling and working full-time as a graduate assistant at my school. My professional passions also include yoga and humanitarian efforts. I am a certified yoga instructor. I have signed the Giving What We Can pledge and pledged to donate 10% of my income for the rest of my life to charities which have been evaluated as highly effective. After I graduate, I hope to serve as a Peace Corps volunteer.

Thank you so much for supporting me and my passions. I am thankful for each and every one of you. You provide me with the ability to use my creativity and follow my dreams. Peace and love to all.

In the words of Kahlil Gibran, "Work is love made visible."

P.S. Check out kiva.org to find out where some of your money goes!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION, PLEASE READ!!!
I know that the information in my policies is long and addresses a lot of topics. But please understand that IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to read and fully understand this information in my policies, listings, and shop announcement before making a purchase. I cannot stress this enough! This is important not just for my shop, but for all other shops as well.

Here's the deal: Buying on Etsy is very different from buying from big name-brand stores. This means you get unique, sometimes one of a kind, beautiful, custom sized, lovingly handmade items. But this also means that if you select a wrong size or change your mind, etc., it is financially debilitating for me to perform a return especially if you ordered something custom or in a small size. I want to run my one-woman shop fairly. This is why, in 3 years of selling, I have developed this (albeit long) shop policy section with all of my knowledge and experience of fair business practices.

By purchasing you are agreeing that you understand all terms of my shop. Communication is key! If ANYTHING concerns or confuses you, please ask! I am more than willing to help. It is always better to clarify beforehand than to try to fix a mess afterwards, right? :)

Accepted Payments:
PayPal (eChecks have a 3-5 day processing period and may delay your order)
Direct Checkout (Credit Card)
Etsy Gift Cards

Price Lowering:
All listed prices are final. I treat all my customers fairly and equally, so if I did this for you, I would have to do this for everyone, and I would not be able to stay in business!
Shipping
Insurance, Shipping Guidelines, and Shipping Upgrades:
I ship USPS First Class with Delivery Confirmation and tracking for U.S. and International Orders. I always ship to the address you provide to Etsy. Orders within the U.S. also have the option to upgrade to Priority shipping. By purchasing from this shop, you, as a buyer, are recognizing that I am not held liable for lost packages. I ship First Class because it is generally reliable and the most economical option for you. In my entire time as a seller, I have had only 2 out of thousands of packages lost by USPS. If you believe your package is lost, please contact me and we will work through it together.

Shipping Time and Rush Orders:
Please refer to the processing time in my listings. I can sometimes ship within a few days, but please do not expect to receive an item before the combined processing & shipping time period ends. U.S. customers who want something in a hurry can upgrade to Priority shipping (2-3 day delivery instead of First Class 2-5 day delivery). I am also willing to rush processing time for a small fee, anywhere from $2+. Rush fee will be added directly to the price of the item, so please message me about rush orders PRIOR to purchasing. If not, you can forward the money via PayPal or I can make an extra listing for you afterwards. However, an extra listing will cost more to cover the cost of the extra listing fee.

Customs Fees & VAT (for orders outside the United States):
Each country has their own policy on customs fees. Some may charge nothing, and other countries may charge a hefty fee. Your package is marked with the value you paid for your item. For example, if you bought a $20 bracelet, your customs form/shipping label will be marked $20. The amount you pay to ship is separate from customs fees, since customs fees are charged by your country and are completely separate from the shipping service. Your country may also require that you come by your customs office or postal office to pick up your package. To avoid any unexpected surprises, familiarize yourself with the policies of your country before ordering. Thank you!

Shipping Address:
I ship to the address buyers give me. If for some reason the address is invalid and the package is returned to me, the buyer will need to cover the shipping cost the second time so that it can be delivered to the correct address. Please double-check the address you have programmed into Etsy to ensure that this will not happen. Thanks!
Refunds and Exchanges
Returns and exchanges:
THIS IS SOME OF THE MOST IMPORTANT INFO TO KNOW!!!!! I accept returns and exchanges rarely and under very specific conditions.

1. I made a mistake and sent the incorrect item. If this is the case, you must message me within 3 days after tracking marks your package "delivered." I will pay shipping.
2. The item is clearly not what was pictured or there is a defect. In this case you must send a picture as proof, and natural stone or leather color or size variation does not count. Payer of shipping is up to jurisdiction depending on the circumstance, and you must message me within 3 days of delivery.
3. I made a mistake and did not send the size you provided me with. This is not the same as a misunderstanding on the buyer's part of the sizing guidelines. You must contact me within 3 days of tracking marking the item as "delivered." I will pay shipping.
4. Some catastrophic life event came up (ex. someone hit your car in a hit-and-run, your roommate spontaneously moved out and you cannot make rent, etc.) In this case, I will accept a return and you will need to pay for shipping both ways. You must contact me within 7 days of delivery, and the item must be unworn and undamaged.
5. The item breaks due to product failure (not accidental breakage) within 7 days (free repair) or within 30 days (50% fee for repair or 50% refund if returned). Most stores have 30 day return policies for items with a receipt that are unworn and undamaged. I offer the option of repair for worn items up to 30 days because I value your happiness and satisfaction. This is more than most stores do.
6. After 30 days, I can perform repairs if you send the item back to me and pay full price for labor and replacement supplies. For example, if you have had your bracelet for a year and the string and leather have worn out, the charge will be for labor, new string, and new leather. I can reuse the beads, buttons, charms, etc. without you having to pay again for these.

**My items are durable and breakage is extremely unlikely.
I usually request photo proof for any problems that occur.

**I do not accept returns if you ship items back to me without telling me. You must tell me first! If a returned bracelet shows up on my doorstep with no communication, I keep it. No refund.

Sizing Choice Oopsies:
In some cases, a buyer did not read or understand the sizing guidelines and chose an incorrect size. In this case:
1. If the bracelet is too big, I will resize it for a 20% fee.
2. If the bracelet is too small, you can ship it back and I will make another for a 50% restocking fee. This is because the odds are slim that I will ever be able to sell the bracelet again in that exact size, and the fee partially covers this liability. (Bracelets can be adjusted to be smaller but not bigger, so I need to make an entirely new bracelet if you chose too small of a size.)
**Buyer pays shipping in both cases.
**If you are buying for a friend, please message me and we can try to guess the appropriate size together with information about his/her height, bone structure, shoe size, etc.

I have been using the same sizing guidelines for almost 3 years, and as far as I know they run true to size. (If you think otherwise, please feel free to tell me that!) If you did not follow the sizing guidelines, please understand that I cannot be held liable for this. This is why I must charge a resizing or restocking fee. If an item is returned, it will be hard or sometimes impossible for me to sell it in that exact size again since I custom make almost all items. I cannot be expected to take the responsibility if I received incorrect information from a buyer. I am not a large business which means you get exceptional craftsmanship and unique items. But because of this, returns are difficult and sometimes impossible.

Because of these policies, it is very important that you are absolutely sure of your measurement. If you are at all confused or unsure, feel free to message me and I would love to help you find the best size.

Order Cancellations:
All sales are final and I do not cancel orders for any reason. It is very important to be SURE you want your item and you understand all the terms associated with it, outlined here in the shop policies as well as in the listing, before you make a purchase.

If I do decide to overrule my policies, for any reason, then each person is still liable to pay a 20% restocking fee. If you bought a $20 bracelet, then I will only refund $16. The 20% will reimburse me for the time I spent answering convos, possibly special-ordering supplies, and processing and managing the order.
Additional policies and FAQs
How to Care for your Bracelet:
The more delicately you treat your item the longer it will last. It is best to keep your bracelet out of water, free of bath and body products, and away from sports and rough activities.

Photo Variations:
I make most bracelets to order and work with natural materials. About 95% of the bracelets I make are custom made for you. As a result, the stone color, placement, leather color, size and overall appearance will always vary. It is the buyer's responsibility to fully understand this information PRIOR to making a purchase and receiving a bracelet. The variations are slight, but I do not accept variations from the photograph as a reasonable excuse for a return. You will receive a bracelet with the stones, button, leather, charms, cord, etc. described in the listing. Use the photos as a general guide for how your bracelet will look.

Custom orders:
I am willing to make alterations and custom orders as long as they are requested and confirmed PRIOR to the submission of your order. I may also be willing to order special stones for you, however there will be a significant upcharge for this to cover the cost of shipping and any extra beads I must order (I usually have to order 16 inch strands) that go unused. There is also a fee for custom listings for the extra time I spend communicating with you about your bracelet, designing the new piece and ordering new supplies.

Crystal Therapy:
In addition, I am not formally trained in crystal healing, so I do not feel comfortable enough offering a consultation on what stones are best for you. If the information in the listing is not enough information for you, please consult outside resources or a trained professional.

Feedback:
By purchasing from my shop, you are agreeing to contact me prior to leaving any neutral or negative feedback (anything less than 5 stars). Please let me know so I can fix whatever it was that was not up to your expectations. I want to give top notch service, and I can only do this with communication. In many cases buyers do not realize how detrimental neutral or negative feedback can be to a seller's reputation. I will always aim to remedy anything about your order that you find disagreeable, within reason, but in order to do this you must contact me first.

Means of Communication:
I prefer to communicate via Etsy messaging, Instagram or my business email: philosophias.etsy [!at] gmail.com. I prefer not to be privately messaged on my Facebook Business Page because it mixes with my personal facebook notifications so it is easy for these messages to get lost.

Wholesale:
Wholesale prices will vary depending on certain factors, but generally wholesale is calculated at 50-65% of the price you see listed on Etsy. If interested in putting in a wholesale order, please email me at philosophias.etsy [!at] gmail.com and provide the quantity you would like to buy, which pieces you are interested in, where they would be sold, and any other important information.
