Meet Your Maker: Amy Bumgardner

Welcome to my shop! I'm Amy Bumgardner, maker and the one woman show behind Amy Bumgardner Jewelry. It began in 2010 when searching for a creative outlet. I had a great career in the banking industry but my daily routine didn't do anything to fulfill my creative side. Making jewelry started on a whim with a cheap tool and beading kit from the big box store. It was the creative outlet I had been craving.

My style quickly evolved from beaded pieces to light metal working in semi precious metals. Watching the silver move under the force of my hammer is incredibly satisfying. Teaching myself new skills related to metalsmithing is an ongoing process. Casting is next on my long list of techniques I'm eager to learn.

Throughout high school, architectural design and drafting were among my favorite classes. I briefly attended our local college to pursue a degree in architecture but life had other plans. I still love sketching home plans since my husband and I have big dreams for a secluded cabin on our remote land.

This architectural influence is heavily visible in much of my work. Clean lines, geometric angles, and timeless designs are consistent in many of my pieces.

I'm passionate about creating, whether it be making a new piece of jewelry, baking a loaf of bread, refinishing countertops, or a freshly painted wall. Scrubbing dirt from my hands after bringing an idea to life feeds my soul. It keeps the passion alive for my next project.

When I'm not making jewelry, I enjoy spending time outside on our remote piece of land in the NC mountains, exploring the valleys and peaks, looking for new patches of moss, discovering animal tracks, and taking in the fresh mountain air.

Frequently asked questions
Custom and personalized orders

Custom orders are welcome! Please contact me for your special request. Custom orders must be paid for before I will begin working on your item(s).

Sizing details

Photos are taken to show details of each item. Please refer to the dimensions listed in each description for actual sizing.

Gift wrapping and packaging

Jewelry is packaged in a gift box stamped with my anvil logo. Jewelry is shipped in as few gift boxes as possible to keep extra materials out of the landfill. If you need a gift box for each item, let me know in the "note to seller" box at checkout or send a message. Most orders are packaged in a mailer that can be recycled with your other household papers.

Gift wrapping is not offered since my wrapping skills are lame. Your order is in a gift box and can be wrapped or add a simple bow for gifting once it arrives.

What is Argentium Silver?

From my suppliers website "Made with a touch of germanium, Argentium® Silver presents a bright white color that is closer to fine silver than traditional sterling, yet is highly resistant to firescale and extremely slow to tarnish under most conditions. With 93.5% pure silver, Argentium meets the legal standard to be quality-marked as sterling silver. All Argentium is made from reclaimed silver and its sources are guaranteed by Argentium International Ltd."

What is 14/20 gold filled?

From our suppliers website: "Gold-filled, or gold overlay, is made by heat- and pressure-bonding a thin layer of karat gold to a brass (or other base metal) core. The "14/20" or "12/10" notation refers to the industry shorthand describing the resulting material. The first number is the karat purity of the gold used; the second number is the amount, by weight, of gold to the substrate material. "14/20" gold-filled material is made with 14-karat gold and the gold represents 1/20th (or 5%) of the total weight of the material." Also, "Karat gold covers the brass surface, making it tarnish-resistant" and "the value of gold-filled is greater than gold-plated because gold-filled has an actual layer of karat gold, not just a microscopic film."

Do you ship Internationally?

Not at this time. I haven't had a chance to sort through new tariff laws but hope to resume international shipping in the near future.

Can I return jewelry once I've opened the protective bag?

Due to hygiene concerns, all jewelry is placed in a zip top bag then sealed. Once the seal has been broken, jewelry cannot be returned unless the item is defective. Please note, allergic reactions are not considered a defect and are not eligible for returns.

Will my jewelry tarnish?

More than likely, yes but most tarnish can be removed with a Sunshine polishing cloth. To prevent tarnish, keep your jewelry dry, avoid chemicals, avoid contact with beauty products, and store in the plastic bag when not in use. Sterling silver is the most prone to tarnishing. High levels of sulfur in your water, acidic body chemistry, exposure to chemicals can all be causes of your jewelry turning quickly. Cartilage piercings and new piercings typically tarnish quicker than older lobe piercings. Please note that I do not accept returns because of tarnish since this is an environmental factor beyond my control. I'm happy to send a polishing cloth if needed.
