"Since he must develop himself through his movements, through the work of his hands, he has need of objects with which he can work that provide motivation for his activity."
- Maria Montessori
I sold my first toys on Etsy in September 2008 when my daughter was 8 months old. We continue to love preparing these toys and selling them through Etsy as well as The Michael Olaf Joyful Child web site, a Montessori resource for families and classrooms. We value the connections we have made through this little shop.
Thank you for your continuing support and effort to share Montessori with infants and the youngest children.
Information about the toys:
The Montessori Baby Toys are based on those from the AMI Montessori Assistants to Infancy (0-3) course. These beautiful and simple toys are made to complement the growing infant’s natural physical development. Generous friends who had taken the course shared these patterns with me when I was pregnant with my daughter. As a mom, and a handworks enthusiast, I was inspired to make and offer them to other families.
I include an information card with each bag that suggests when it is most likely your baby will show interest in them and what their basic purpose is.
The toys are not painted, stained, sealed or glued. Each toy ages beautifully with use.
The cotton rattles are safe in the washer and dryer.

5 out of 5 starsI was having such a difficult time finding black and white grip toys for my little. So when I saw this crochet rattle with the bells, I had to have it. The whole kit was totally worth it and I can’t wait for my little girl to play and learn with these items!

5 out of 5 starsPerfect first rattle! My 11 week old absolutely loves it. The center is thin enough for her to grasp, the bells are a hit, and I don’t have to worry about her hurting herself when her little robot arms inevitably smack the rattle into her face on occasion :) beautiful!

About pinkhouse
A Little Information About Our Shop
Welcome to Pinkhouse Handworks. This is the name I chose several years ago for a little business I hoped to have one day. I didn't even know what the business we be for! The birth of our child in November 2007 made the business a reality. After being a Montessori guide in Austin, Texas for 10 years, I left my classroom to be at home with my daughter.
With a Montessori background myself (I attended Montessori school from 2 1/2 to 11 years old and assisted in children’s house, elementary and middle school levels before training) and generous friends with the Montessori Birth to 3 training, I set out to make the special items from their trainings for my daughter. With the help of my husbands carpentry skills, I found that we could make multiple sets, and I began to piece together the collection of what I now call Montessori Baby Toys.
We started up our Etsy shop in 2008 when our daughter was a baby and have watched it grow gradually. We were inspired to make they toys for her initially and gave Etsy a try. We have had the pleasure of shipping over 2500 orders to the North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia through Etsy. It's been a real pleasure to be a part of the Etsy family and watch Etsy grow and improve along the way.
In addition to Etsy we sell our toys through The Michael Olaf Company which is a great resource for families. Their web site if full of informative videos, article and product to support families world wide. http://www.michaelolaf.net/
In 2009 we shipped several sets of toys off to a toy testing lab and had them go through the full tests for toy safety. All of our toys passed and so we feel at ease in offering them to babies.
Running this little home business has been like nothing I have ever done before, much like being a parent. I am learning daily from this experience. I feel grateful that my husband and I get to to prepare these toys for infants and am delighted they have found their way out into the larger world.
With the wonderful support of family and friends, we hope to continue making baby toys for infants for a long time.

I attended Austin Montessori School in Austin, Texas from the age of 2 1/2 to 11 years old and was a children's house guide there for ten years. Needless to say, Montessori is a huge part of my life and being able to offer these toys and spread the word about Montessori is a pleasure.

Returns and exchanges
The only item we have that has potential to break are the interlocking discs. They can last a lifetime but if they get stepped on or crunched into a bag they can come apart and be broken. As long as you give them some space they should be fine. We do not use glue on any of the toys, including the discs. If the discs come apart, they should be able to be pushed back together.
We are not responsible for loss during shipping, although I've never had that happen, even to Singapore!
