I'm not sure what Marcella does, but there is magic in these. I really appreciate the reused packaging, so much. I wish others would follow this example. One thing, I felt they could have been a bit more sturdy. That being said, these are emanating positive energy. They feel as though they were made within a sacred container with very high intentions, from the heart. Thank-you :)

Excellent workmanship! very good quality. I will use it in sacred ceremony, after I have cleansed and prayed over it.

“Why do pill bugs curl up when you touch them?” From a young age, I asked questions such as this because I was curious about the myriad singular things that caught my eye--this pill bug, that leaf, this woman’s hand holding mine--and intuitively I felt that I could get to know each by representing it as it was. It is only later that, much to my surprise, I began to notice that there were formal patterns underlying all these singular things. The textures, lines, and shapes of these leaves could also be discerned in these hands and in those pill bugs. In ways I couldn't verbalize then, art began to strike me as a perspicuous way of joining me to the uniqueness as well as to the general order of life, and I took great delight in both.

When I got older, I turned to design, first studying industrial design at University of the Arts in Philadelphia and then accessories design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, both because I believed that I needed to do something practical with my life and because I wanted to develop the kinds of tools that would improve people’s everyday lives. Even though, after a decade of designing handbags and teaching in the fashion industry, I slowly grew disillusioned with the idea that product design could make any genuine difference in the lives of ordinary people, I didn’t give up on the belief that art and ethics were connected in interesting and rather illuminating ways.

I came back to my love of art and making in 2014, feeling, as I did, that I had come home to myself and to the world. Through my art, which is meant to evoke the mysterious, subtle feeling of being in the world, I want to gently yet insistently urge people to take a closer look at life, at what is here before them, as well as to ask the bigger questions of living. Why, for instance, are we here? What is reality, ultimately? What does it mean to be on a spiritual path? And how do we explain human beings’ shifting, often nuanced relationships with nature, with mountains and valleys and forests as well as with the crawling and curling pill bugs?
