Hand-Dyed Yarn, Kits and Inspiration for time poor makers

Hi, my name is Emma, and I am the dyer and maker behind Pippin Yarns.

I have been a crafter for as long as I can remember, learning to knit and crochet from my Nan many years ago. My yarn addiction grew when I had my daughter in 2003 and she is still a big recipient of my making today.

Over the years I have dabbled in all sorts of yarny crafts, selling my makes through Craft Fairs and at the Petticoat Lane Emporium.

As a working parent time for my making is limited so I fit my projects into little sections of time, knitting whenever I can. I always have some yarn with me whether in the car, cinema or waiting outside the school.

I find real joy when I find a little time in my day for making. There is nothing better than sitting down on the train at the start of a long commute and pulling out my knitting on some beautiful yarn. This was the driver behind me setting up Pippin Yarns. I have lots of tips and tricks for making when you are time poor that I will share through Pippin Yarns.

The name Pippin Yarns comes from my crazy little dog, Pippin. A typical cockerpoo, full of life and mischief, he loves yarn but more stealing a skein and making a break for it.

I find inspiration in lots of places from books, films, TV or holidays and the season around us and create small batches of my yarns and kits.

I find that keeping things simple gives me more time to knit and crochet, although I have been known to fall into many a yarn and Ravelry rabbit hole. I mainly work with the same bases. I know what my knitting will be like and it means I save time on selecting and have more time for making. This is not always true and, as a recovering scientist, I do love an experiment and to try new things.

My typical 4ply bases are merino nylon or BFL nylon. Double knit and Aran are totally my friend when I don't have much time but really want a finished object for a gift (or just for me). Again merino and BFL bases are fabulous. And of course, I am partial to some fluff either mohair or Suri - both brilliant for quicker knitting - Love Note anyone?

Thank you for taking the time to read this and get to know me and Pippin Yarns a little better.
