Announcement   NEWSFLASH- - - - - -PIRATE PURL OUT & ABOUT - - - - - - -
I will have an open studio event on Saturday 20 October between 10-2pm at 91 Chinchen St Islington NSW.

My next market will be Fibrefest on Sunday 28 October at Singleton.

- - - - - - - - LADY LUCK SKEINS - - - - - - - - - -
I was recently asked what I enjoy most about hand dyeing and it caused me to realise that I take a lot of pleasure from experimenting with mixing colour spontaneously.
As a result I have introduced into my production schedule a dedicated slot for colour play for the SHEER JOY OF IT!!!
To help you know which skeins these are when you are shopping, I will list them all with the same colour-way, called Lady Luck followed by a batch number. All Lady Luck skeins are one off, the results of freestyle dye sessions (no record kept), making them unrepeatable and limited in number so please buy what you need as I can't make more!

Pirate Purl Yarns is passionate about supporting high quality, small-scale, environmentally conscious, and ethically-minded Aussie farmers.

PPY buys luxury Polwarth and Merino yarns direct exclusively from Australian farms in Victoria and Tasmania.

Yarns are single-origin, scoured in Victoria and spun in New Zealand, minimising the journey from farm to you. Each skein is tenderly hand-dyed by Katrina in her studio in the harbour town of Newcastle, Australia.

About

Wild Adventures Start with You!

My name is Katrina, I am the head dyer for Pirate Purl Yarns and before I started exploring my passion for colour and fibres, I used to work as an administrator in the not-for-profit, education and legal sectors.

I stopped my regular work to go on wild and crazy international adventures with my buddy Chris. So like a little pirate I packed a few possessions (sticks, string and shoes) and headed off with with a song in my head and a book in my hand. During my travels around the globe I collected some swash-buckling tales and a boat-load of inspiration and that was when Pirate Purl Yarns was conceived.

At Pirate Purl Yarns you will find a mix of hand-dyed yarns in a variety of weights and fibres.

My products are all proudly handmade by me in my little studio in the harbour town of Newcastle, Australia.

I have eclectic tastes and I think this is reflected in the colourways which appear in my store.

All my yarn bases have been carefully sourced from Australian producers from non-mulesed sheep and sustainably managed farms. My yarns have not had any 'superwash' treatments and must be washed gently by hand in cold water.

Additional policies and FAQs
PHOTOS AND DESCRIPTION
Several photos are provided in each listing. Wherever possible multiple skeins of well-matched yarn are photographed together.

To get the truest colour, I photograph using sunlight and provide my best description in text.

Please consider all images and read the description before buying as I do not offer a refund if you change your mind. Additional photos can be provided upon request. Colours may vary from screen to screen. If you are unsure about a colour, try viewing it on another screen or monitor.

I DO NOT DYE BATCHES
I list well-matched skeins together in the one listing. For best results and garments I strongly recommend alternating well-matched skeins every row or two.

RANDOM SPOTS AND COLOUR FLASHING OR POOLING
Buyers should be aware that hand-dyed yarn can behave in a variety of ways - speckles or spots of colour, uneven dye distribution, and a propensity for colours to pool or flash once knitted if colour repeats are long, or non-random in distribution. For this reason I photograph skeins opened so you can view the colour distribution throughout the skein.

KNOTS
If I see a knot in a skein I will mention it in the description.

SKEIN SIZE
The weight and meterage can vary moderately from skein to skein. Please ensure that you choose a skein of sufficient meterage to suit your project as it is extremely difficult to make a precise colour match from a subsequent dye bath.

CARE OF YOUR GARMENT
Garments made from my hand-dyed yarn should be hand-washed separately in cold water using a gentle wash agent. Dye running is unlikely but may occur.
