PirouetteEssentials' Shop Announcement

An exciting new development for 2012 is Pirouette's Charity Program! Pirouette will donate 10% of its profits to a charity of choice each year. I am actually kicking things off a retroactively, by starting with my profits from 2011.

2011 CHARITY: I lost my father this past January, nearly 15 years after his diagnosis of CLL, chronic lymphatic leukemia. My father fought for his life, refusing to be a victim and gained an amazing sense of faith throughout it all. When he was a young man, he joined the Peace Corps and went to Bangladesh for 2 years to help build housing for people in need. After visiting India myself just weeks after his passing, I saw first hand the extreme poverty and found a deeper sense of appreciation for his service. In honor of his life and his enthusiasm for helping others, I am proud to kick off my charity program by supporting a cause that's all to close to my family's heart, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

2012 CHARITY: I have chosen St. Jude Children's Hospital as my charity of choice this year. The mission of St. Jude is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of our founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family's ability to pay. In the book Sacred Activism, the author Andrew Harvey asks what breaks your heart the most and advises to put your energy there. Helping children has become a passion of mine. Those who know me, know that I'm already working towards a secondary career in children's literature, so supporting a cause like St. Jude is such an honor, and I can't wait to see what 2012 brings so I can give back big!
