Pitch Pine Pottery

Pitch Pine Pottery began in late 2015 and is run by a husband and wife artist duo located in Buzzard's Bay, MA.

Matt and Tara met in high school, and have long been friends. They found themselves both pursuing careers in functional arts in college. Matthew went on to complete a four year apprenticeship under a master blacksmith after several years of self taught blacksmithing. Tara received her BA with a concentration in Ceramic Arts, along with minor degrees in Art History and English. After college she also apprenticed under a master potter, and worked in historical ceramic reproduction.

Our desire is to bring art with form and function into every home. We feel strongly that life often imitates art and seek to inspire and be inspired by the world around us.

    Tara found her calling clay in college. She holds a BA in Ceramics and at age 22 began working professionally as a production potter under a master ceramicist. In 2016 she started Pitch Pine Pottery full time.

    Owner, Designer, Blacksmith

    Matthew began blacksmithing at age 17 and at age 20 entered into a formal apprenticeship with a master blacksmith that lasted four years. He has produced ironwork for customers around the world and in several films.

Frequently asked questions

Shipping Details

We use recycled materials, and do not charge a handling fee. The shipping cost estimated at checkout for you by Etsy is what the USPS charges to have the specific weight and size of your item shipped to your door. Ceramic items are fragile, require lots of packaging and are sometimes heavy, which is why it can cost more than your average postage. There is no way around this fact unfortunately, but we do our absolute best to ensure your item arrives safely, and at the lowest cost to ship!

Buyer is responsible for any custom fees. UK orders often must pay custom for release of their items. We cannot be held responsible for these dues, nor can we falsify the customs forms.

Breakage During Shipment

We do our absolute best to package each item safely. However, ceramic is incredibly fragile. Unfortunately, once it leaves our home it is out of our hands.

If an item arrives broken, don't panic! Simply contact us first on Etsy, before leaving feedback. Send a photo of the damaged pot. You will be fully refunded, minus any custom fees. You do not need to return the damaged item, simply dispose of it carefully. If a similar pot is on hand we will send that out to you ASAP. If there is any other problem with your order, message us! We are a husband and wife team, and occasionally make mistakes. Please be patient and know we will rectify the problem!

Custom and personalized orders

You may order personalized items, but on custom work only. Ready to ship items in the shop cannot be added to. Message us for custom availability. Personalized items cannot be returned, so please be sure to include correct spelling, dates, and other information when you place your custom order!

While we do accept custom orders, we create original artwork only. Please do not ask for logos, or copies of other artists work. By requesting a custom item from us, we hope that you have viewed our work and enjoy our style. Custom orders are accepted on a case to case basis when we feel the request best reflects our artistic style and capabilities.

Care instructions

All pottery is hand-made with lead free, food safe materials. Mugs, bowls, and other various kitchenware are all microwave and dishwasher safe. Hand washing is always best, and will ensure a long life for your new wares. It is also recommended to warm up your pot before adding any very hot liquids or foods. Simply run it under warm water for a minute.
The only items that CANNOT be used with food are sea glass dishes. While the bottoms are smooth, tiny glass particles could transfer to your food. Your purchased listing will describe the item fully with these care details, and packages arrive with small care cards for your item as a reminder. PitchPinePottery is not responsible for any resulted injury due to
normal or misuse of pottery.

Refunds and Exchanges

With the exception of shipping breakages, we do not accept refunds or exchanges. Please check all listing photos before purchasing and read the description thoroughly. You are buying handmade, there will be variations in shape, and glaze. Color in images may vary from screen to screen. We take our photos in natural light, where the glazes look their best, and do not edit listing photos. No two items will be exactly the same in size, or color.

If your item breaks in the mail, see "Breakages During Shipment" for more details. Ceramic is fragile, take care of your pottery and it will last a lifetime and beyond!

Shipping overages

Multiple orders placed during one restock will be combined, only if they are able to safely fit into one box. If you purchase multiple items, and they are able to ship for less than what you paid, we refund those overages back to you. You will receive the refund at the time of shipment along with your tracking codes. This does not mean, however, that you will only have to pay the cost to ship one item. Multiple ceramic pieces in one box means more packaging, more weight, and higher cost.

Gift wrapping and packaging

Gift wrapping is not available for pottery items, as our main concern is packaging carefully so that your item arrives safely! Your pottery will arrive wrapped in bubble wrap and encased in recycled local news paper. Jewelry arrives wrapped appropriately for gifting. No receipt will be found in your package as it can easily be found on etsy or in your E-Mail.

How do shop restocks work?

We restock our Etsy shop every two weeks. The exact day and time is always listed in our Instagram bio. You can also sign up for our newsletter on PitchPinePottery.com to receive two emails a month reminding you of these restock dates. We offer previews via Instagram the day before and the day of an update. Each new item will have a number associated with it to make searching the shop quicker. Restocks are first come, first serve, no reserves can be made on new items. If you check out multiple times with multiple items during an update, we will combine your orders when possible. Sometimes for the safety or you order, they will be packaged separately.

Massachusetts Sales Tax: Pitch Pine Pottery is located in Massachusetts. In accordance with state and federal laws, MA residents and items shipping within MA will pay 6.25% sales tax for goods purchased. Sales tax only applies to Massachusetts residents and packages shipping to Massachusetts addresses.
