Announcement   Choose your Plate Flower, then choose which stem to go with it. You decide if it will be displayed as a flower or as a bird bath. In the bird bath position, it can double as an eye catching conversation piece when used as a stand alone serving tray at your next backyard party.
I have a section of plate flowers for $10 if you purchase a stem.
IF YOU ALREADY HAVE A PLATE FLOWER and are tired of the rusty rebar stem, Purchase a stem here and slip it over the rebar. It will give your plate flower new life with no rust! Copper is a good choice for your stem as it will patina to green over time. I do include rebar or a heavy duty garden stake with each stem to instantly display your flower.

What an amazing idea!! Great use for those odd dishes that manage to accumulate in your closet!! A great artistic usage -- never pictured dishes as flowers this is great!

This stem beautifully complements the plate flower I purchased along with it. As promised, Dee refunded part of the shipping costs because I bought both at the same time. She does high-quality work and is responsive to queries. I'll be back for more items in the future.

This plate flower perfectly matches our bright blue shutters and adds a bit of whimsy to the front of the house. It's well made, and Dee did an amazing job packing it up as well.

About

Something more

I started my Plate Flowers Plus shop when I fell in love with the idea of recycling old dishes and what have you. In shopping around looking for ideas before I started making mine, I found many that were just gorgeous! Some had layers of 5 or more plates, bowls, fancy vases etc.... which ended up being quite a stack with a lot of depth and weight. I wanted to keep my prices down (including the shipping prices!) so I usually only work with 3-4 layers. Most of my dishes are found at second hand stores. The only heavy cost comes in with the epoxy,...much epoxy!!!!
Something else I learned in my search for ideas was the way the artists display the plate flower. I found most use a hockey puck glued to the back of the plate with rebar inserted into the hockey puck. For one thing if the plate flower is large, the rebar can't support the weight and it leans forward. I didn't like the way that looked, not to mention that rebar rusts horribly...even if its painted, it will eventually rust. Another method was to glue a glass bottle upside down on the back of the plate to "hang" the plate flower. I wasn't crazy about that idea either, it never seemed to hang straight, and the wooden dowel that was included would not last very long.
I am always looking for ways to get more bang for my buck, so I had the idea to make my plate flowers to be displayed as a flower, or a bird bath. Used in the bird bath position you could use a plate flower as a serving dish at your backyard party.
I searched and searched, I came across a plumbing fitting made of PVC at a Menards store. It holds 1/2 copper pipe. I was thrilled! It allows me to display my plate flowers as a bird bath or a flower! The next hurdle was to make sure the epoxy would hold the material that the fitting is made of. So I made my first plate flower and put it outside for a full year before I started selling them.
Plate Flowers Plus was born after I took several of my newly made Plate Flowers to an out door show and sold every one!!

The copper that fits into the PVC fitting is 1/2 inch. The rebar that holds it up is 3/8 inch.
The copper is a perfect choice for a stem....as it ages it turns green! If you don't care for the green you can give it a quick spray of clear coat. But I prefer the green!!
I also devised a way to hang the plate flowers on a fence or a wall. You attach a copper cap to the fence or wall, add a one inch piece of copper pipe, and slip your plate flower on. This would be a good choice for your plate flowers if you have limited yard space!
I would send you a fitting for your fence or wall, (for free) just let me know you want one!
After I made my first stem with the leaves I had the bright idea that they could cover up a previously purchased rebar stem!! You insert your rebar into the ground, slip one of my stems on and attach your plate flower to your rebar. It will give your plate flower a whole new life!

At any given time I have about 300 plates and odds and ends to work with. The epoxy I use takes about three days to cure. So once the plate flower is finished curing, I turn it over and attach the PVC fitting for another three days of curing. I also grind off the shine of the plates where they come in contact with each other and the PVC fitting. This allows the epoxy a more secure hold.
I left my plate flowers out all winter long here in Michigan. This spring they were just fine. My daughter had her plate flower blow over and hit the house, breaking a plate. So in keeping them out all winter you may want to make sure it is securely in the ground.
Let me know if you would like to see something in a special color....with my growing stock of plates, I'm sure we could come up with something to please you!

Thank you for stopping by!

Blessings,
Dee

Hello! Welcome to my second shop here on Etsy! I love making the plate flowers so much that I decided to start a new shop. In this new shop you can purchase a stem to go along with your flower. All the flowers can be displayed as a flower or as a bird bath. Please keep in mind that all items used are treasured finds at yard sales, antique shops, second hand stores, flea markets, etc. Some normal wear may be seen on some of the plates, especially the antique pieces. Some of which are from the depression era. If there were any imperfections that needed to be addressed, I would certainly do so.

♥ I need to mention that I never use any melamine items. In shopping around it wouldn't hurt to ask if there are any of these type items used. I use only glass and ceramic pieces. I wanted to be sure my plate flowers could withstand extreme heat. After all they will be getting a lot of sun over the years! Before applying the high strength epoxy I take the extra step in grinding off the shine of each piece where they come in contact with each other and the plumbing fixture used on the back. The all weather high strength epoxy will have a more permanent bond taking this extra step. The epoxy holds strong to a negative 40 degrees, is UV tolerant and withstands a high temp of 140 degrees. I live in Michigan and so far my plate flower has withstood an ice storm that caused thousands of customers to go without power with power grids failures. My plate flower that I put out as an "experiment" is holding strong with no damage to the depression era piece I used.

My stems are a nice way to dress up any plate flower, even if you purchased one years ago...You would simply stand the new stem on the included rebar and slip the rebar from your already purchased piece down into the stem.

I include a 24 inch length of rebar/sturdy plant stake with each stem for instant display.

Thank you and happy shopping!

Blessings,
Dee

Shipping
Shipping can be determined by clicking on " shipping and policies" under the listing. You can then put in your zip code for shipping quote. Prices are calculated at Parcel Select, which is ground 2-9 days. You can upgrade to Priority Rate at check out with a similar pull down tab. Priority rate may be the better choice since it means it is flown.

The cactus piece shipping can be parcel select or priority rate. You will be able to choose at checkout. Please keep in mind that parcel select is 2-9 days ground. I do pack the cacti well. But for extra security I would recommend Priority Rate which is flown. The cost does include extra for my boxing and packing materials.
Even though shipping cost is determined by your zip code, If I am off by more than $2 I would issue a refund.

International shipments: Buyer is responsible for all additional taxes, tariffs, VAT or customs charges. Also in some international shipments, tracking and insurance is not available. I am not responsible for loss or damage on such sales.
Refunds and Exchanges
If your piece arrives broken it may be hard to replace it as they are all individual finds. If it arrives broken contact me and we will work something out.
I would take a piece back if it was not what your were expecting. You would have to ship it back at your own expense. It must arrive in the same condition as when you received it. I would then issue a refund minus shipping.
Additional policies and FAQs
As for any custom order, cactus or plate flowers, deposit is non refundable if you cancel the order. Furthermore, after a two week time period from the time I contact you that your order is finished you have not purchased the custom order, the listing will be considered abandoned. I will try to contact buyer before considering any listing abandoned. After the two week time period I have the right to cancel the special order and put the listing up for the general public.
