I create all my pieces in a shed. The light above my workspace randomly goes off and I can't do anything about it until it decides to turn itself back on. I live in a 720 square foot house that doesn't have a dishwasher. It's an old house, but not really in a charming way, more like just in an old way. It's tidy, clean and cozy though. As my husband and I like to say, the people we love are always really close by. I can pretty much always see my kids. Our hot water is 160 degrees when it comes out of the tap (just ask the plumber that was so shocked about that), but if you want cold water, you get no more than a trickle. Our washer and dryer aren't in the house, they are in the shed (not attached to the house) that I work in, which is nice in a way since the dryer helps give off a little bit of heat in the winter. However, it does mean I have to cart the laundry out across the yard in all sorts of weather. Every year our washing machine does its annual freeze (apparently the dryer doesn't give off enough heat sometimes) and for about a month we haul our clothes to the laundry mat. It's a funny, quirky life, and while I would change the fact we don't have a dishwasher (if we could fit one in our kitchen) and maybe stop our washing machine from freezing each year, I couldn't ask for a better life. I know I have an absolutely wonderful life and I try to never take that for granted. Being able to create really enhances my life and gives me such satisfaction and fulfillment. I feel so lucky I happened to see that old kiln on Craig's list for $100 (I've since upgraded), and went for it. Lucky for me ETSY gives me a reason to make what I'm making. Otherwise my work would be stashed everywhere and my friends and family would be sick of ceramic gifts (although, they might be already).
