About

Painting the world in rainbow, one little shirt at a time.

This little shop is where my love of creating, color, and connecting with lovely people (oh - and rainbows (and the Beatles)) - all come together in a crazy beautiful way.

My husband and I work for a Christian non-profit in teaching, counseling, and international training. I got a Masters degree in Mental Health Counseling, intending to use it in ministry, and that was going to be our main gig. But as it turns out, raising & loving three little kids (and not getting much sleep) completely uses up the part of my brain that I need to be a counselor. So, I spent a couple of years just focused on my kiddos.

During my time as a stay at home mommy, I learned how to make stencils out of freezer paper, painstakingly cutting them out with an exacto knife, ironing them on, painting, and voila! Awesome, personalized shirts! I was especially fond of those itsy bitsy onesies, and I made a lot of them for friends and family. Though I'd shopped on Etsy forever, I honestly never dreamed of selling the shirts I made, because my heart in it was always gift-giving, not selling.

Eventually, I got an electronic cutting machine that allowed me to design on my computer and cut stencils MUCH more quickly. I had SO much fun making all kinds of gear for myself & my friends. Still, though, the thought of selling what I made was totally intimidating and out of reach. Finally, though, my cousin talked me into starting a business, and conveniently, she was also a graphic designer willing to make me some truly amazing branding. It sounded like fun, and I was totally okay with it being a flop. I thought it would be a fun thing to do on the side, during nap times and on the weekends. So I jumped in.

And thus, Plucky Mustard was born. I launched this shop on my own birthday in November 2014, with lowest of low expectations. I was going to be THRILLED if I made one single sale before the end of the year. Little did I know! My first day in business, I had 8 orders, after 2 months I had 200, and it hasn't slowed down since! What began as a hobby quickly became a full-time job, and my passion for it has grown just as much. I have to drag myself away from my work at the end of the day, and I'm so blessed to be able to say that. Thank you for visiting Plucky Mustard!

Returns and exchanges
Bottom line: If you have ANY problem with your order, I will make it right.

Just let me know if you have any concerns or issues, and I am here for you!

I sell both hand-painted and screen-printed shirts, and the listing descriptions will clearly indicate how that shirt is created.

My painting method is meant to emulate the faded, uneven texture of a vintage t-shirt - instead of the thick, solid colors of a machine-made print, my designs have the texture & one-of-a-kind character that only a handmade item can offer. This faded effect is especially true on onesies, which have stretchier fabric - the painted area will stretch along with the shirt, adding to the vintage look. This uneven paint texture is my style, but I respect that it might not be yours. Order with this in mind, and know that I'm always happy to talk about a return or exchange if the vintage-feeling texture of the print is not what you expected.

My screen-printed shirts are printed by an awesome small business print shop, Goodfellas Merch, who specialize in printing for small handmade shops like mine. Their print quality is top notch and I know you will love your printed shirt!

I am a super-perfectionist, and try never to let mistakes get past me - I will re-make a shirt 4 times before I'll send you one with a flaw. But I'm human, and sometimes I miss things. So PLEASE let me know ASAP if you have any issues, and I will make it right! I want you to be delighted with your Plucky Mustard experience, from beginning to end.

RETURNS/EXCHANGES
If I have made a mistake on your order, please contact me within 3 days of receiving your item. Depending on the situation I may request photos of the item. We will work out together the best plan. When it is my mistake, I will offer a return and/or refund, exchange, or replacement, depending on what makes sense for your situation.

For exchanges due to my mistake, I will cover postage of the new shirt as well as the postage to return the original shirt. The new item will ship when I receive the returned item, OR when you provide valid tracking for the returned item.

If you are looking for an exchange or return due to your mistake, i.e. you prefer a different size or color, this will be determined on a case by case basis. As long as your item is not customized with a name. etc., I usually accept exchanges. I require the buyer to cover the postage for returning the original shirt to me, as well as for sending the replacement shirt. Only after the original shirt has been received by me in unworn, unwashed condition will I send the replacement.
Payment
Payment is accepted through Paypal and Etsy Direct Checkout. Sales Tax will apply to orders shipping to Georgia, USA.

If for any reason you need to cancel your order, let me know within 24 hours, as I begin working on orders very soon after they are placed. I cannot guarantee cancellation after 24 hours have passed.

Custom orders must be paid in full before I begin design work. You can expect a design proof within one week of payment, unless we agree on a different timeline.
Shipping
Turnaround time is different depending on the item ordered, and will be listed in the shipping details of each listing. Please ask any questions about shipping turnaround BEFORE placing your order. If you need an item delivered by a specific date, the safest option is always to communicate with me FIRST. Delivery dates requested in the notes at checkout, without prior communication with me, cannot necessarily be honored, though of course I will do my best.

You'll receive email confirmation of shipping & tracking info once your order has shipped out.

RUSH ORDERS: If you need something by a specific date that is less than 3 weeks away, please contact me before ordering, but usually you can purchase the Rush My Order listing to get your item in time.

If you would like a shipping method other than First Class, please contact me directly to set up alternative shipping arrangements. Rush Orders automatically come with Priority 2-Day Shipping.

INTERNATIONAL ORDERS can be rushed with the International Rush My Order listing, which buys you a guaranteed 3 business day turnaround before shipping. If you would also like to upgrade to International Priority Shipping, contact me before purchasing.

As stated above...PLEASE do let us know if you have a hard deadline for your item (like a birthday party or baby shower) - it just helps us to better serve you! Even if it's within our normal turnaround times, it still helps me to make absolutely sure you get everything on time - this is as much a priority to me as it is to you!
Additional policies and FAQs
WHOLESALE:
We love wholesale orders and have very competitive rates! You can find Plucky Mustard on Etsy Wholesale, and you can contact us directly for more information on wholesale orders.

CUSTOM ORDERS:
We LOVE custom orders! We're happy to make a one-of-a-kind design just for you. We have to charge a little bit extra for them, though, simply because of the additional time and design work involved. We take these on a case-by-case basis and as time allows. Most custom designs will cost an extra $5-$10 depending on how complex the design is and how similar it is to our existing designs.
