My Story

I've been a maker for as long as I can remember. I think it's in my blood, since everyone in my family has been a maker of some sort. It never mattered to me what I was making, as long as I was making something, but I've always been drawn to jewelry and pretty gemstones from a young age.

Some of my earliest memories are going to visit my grammie and pawing through her jewelry box to see her beautiful jewels. The jewelry box I looked through was of course filled with costume jewelry, I didn't get to see the good stuff until I was much older. But it didn't matter. Those plastic and rhinestone studded earrings, bracelets, and necklaces made me happy and I thought she was the luckiest woman in the world to own such beautiful baubles.

I also had a love of gemstones when I was little. If I wasn't making something, you could find me searching the driveway for a pretty rock or sorting through my rock collection in my room. There was a small mineral shop in town that I visited as often as I could, and they had the most spectacular specimens of gems I've ever seen. They had these small barrels of small mixed gemstones that you could scoop into small pouches to buy, and my parents would let me get one on our visits. I would meticulously pick through and fill my bag up with just the right gems, finding ones with neat shapes, sizes and variations of colors. I treated those gems like they were gold!

Everyone always asks when I started making jewelry, and that's a hard question to answer. I feel like I've always been making jewelry! I guess the answer would be I've been making jewelry "professionally" since 2008, but I started making jewelry when I was around 10 (around 1993), in the form of friendship bracelets. My techniques have evolved exponentially since then!

Each piece of jewelry is 100% handmade by me. I use a variety of materials in my work-gemstones, Czech glass, artisan components, and even thrifted pieces. I love supporting other small businesses, and try to purchase as many of my materials as I can from other small businesses. And while I may not carry my gemstones around with me everywhere I go anymore, I do treat them with great care in all aspects. From receiving to making to packaging to mailing to you.

When I’m not making jewelry, you’ll probably find me in my backyard watching the birds, taking photos of my beautiful state, watching reruns of Friends, Golden Girls & Gilmore Girls, or drinking a Cherry Coke!
