Frequently asked questions
For Watches: Running Condition
All of our watches are in good running condition, and unless otherwise noted in the description, you can expect them to be properly winding, setting and keeping reasonable (+/- 5 minutes per day) time upon receipt. Most of our watches have been in storage for many years, so if you plan on carrying/wearing them everyday, you should have them cleaned and oiled, and then once a year thereafter to keep them in top running and timekeeping condition. If the watches will be for occasional use or display, they should be cleaned and serviced every 3 to 5 years depending on use. Convo us if you would like more information about cleaning and service options we offer.
Descriptions & Abbreviations
While we do our best to describe our items with all the information we hope you will need to make an informed purchase, details may get missed. Convo us with any questions, large or small!

How To Wear
Not quite sure how to wear your vintage watch or watch accessory? We’ve set up some pages that show you the most traditional (and a few modern) ways to show off your watches and accessories here:
www.pmtime.com/howto_main.html
For Men's Pocket Watch Chains: Choosing A Chain Length, Part 1
Our pocket watch chains feature a photo showing the chains against a backdrop created from a men's medium-sized vest. Depending on the style you are looking to create with your chain, we offer that for someone with a slender build or short to average height, you can expect the shown item to hang off your person similar to the photo. If you have a larger build or are taller than average, please note the chain will hang differently off your person than shown.
For Men's Pocket Watch Chains: Choosing A Chain Length, Part 2
As a rule of thumb, on an average-build male, we suggest straight style chains or Albert style chains 10" or shorter for heights under 5'8", 10" to 14" for heights 5'8" to 6'2", and 14" or longer for heights over 6'2".
For Double Albert styles, we suggest chains 20" or shorter for heights under 5'8", 18" to 30" for heights 5'8" to 6'2", and 24" or longer for heights over 6'2".
For Pocket Watch Chains: Weight Classes, Part 1
We use the following general guideline when we are describing our chains. In practice, any watch can be paired with any chain, however a mis-match of chain weight to watch weight can result in the chain hanging awkwardly or improperly from your person, which could increase the chance the chain may catch on hazards in your environment. The suggestions we make should be taken as general guidelines for average-sized watches in each size range.
* Ribbon: Ribbon-style chains do not conform to our standard guidelines due to the unique nature of the design. As a rule, ribbon-style chains can be considered a unisex weight and will safely pair with both ladies and gents sized watches.
For Pocket Watch Chains: Weight Classes, Part 2
* Very Light: Most ladies' slide chains will fall into this weight category and are ideally paired with all ladies' sized watches. Pocket watch chains in this weight class are often considered "opera" style and are paired with mid-size watches, also known as "dress-size" watches.
* Light: Pocket watch chains in this weight class will be best paired with mid-size watches, also known as "dress-size" watches.
* Medium: Pocket watch chains in this weight class will best be paired with gents' watches in sizes 10S-16S.
* Heavy: Pocket watch chains in this weight class will best be paired with gents' watches in sizes 14S-18S.
* Extra Heavy: Pocket watch chains in this weight class will best be paired with gents' watches in sizes 16S and larger.
