luxury handmade tango clothes

Tangueras need fantastically beautiful clothing with total freedom of movement. Poema is dancewear for Argentine social tango designed for dancing late into the night without sacrificing the opulence of luxury materials or the delicate whimsy of handmade couture.

Silk, feathers, fossils, gilded edges, tea-stained chiffon, layered sediment, oil on water, oriental rugs, smeared rainbows...I choose fabrics that evoke the freakish beauty of the natural world, combining them with old-world glamour and touches of modern sleekness. The poema silhouette is sensual, comfortable, and celebratory of the female form in motion.

My inspiration comes from the milonga environment and from my own spiritual and physical relationship with tango. I am constantly motivated by the marvelous & powerful women who give life to my creations on dance floors around the world.

fué el poema de ayer / que yo soñé, /de dorado color, /vanas quimeras del corazón...

it was the poem of yesterday/ that I dreamed, / of gilded color, / vain chimeras of the heart...

Thank you for visiting poema. Everything in the shop is in stock and ready to ship.

The items in this shop are the only garments currently for sale. If you see something in the "sold" category or on facebook, but it is no longer live in the Etsy shop, then it has already sold and is not available. This is because everything is handmade and one-of-a-kind, and I don't re-make exact copies of previous pieces. Thanks for understanding!

I do not take custom orders. However, if you have any questions about the fit or nature of items in the shop, please send me a message and I'll do my best to help you pick the perfect piece.

New garments are listed every week, almost always around midday on Thursday. I recommend joining the poema mailing list so you can be the first to find out when new items are in the shop. Things tend to sell quickly in the first 24 hours, so it's advantageous to know right away when there are new items to consider. Here’s the link to the mailing list:

Because everything is stretchy, most poema garments fit most tangueras. This is also due to the versatility of the designs. The labels "extra small, small, medium, large" are general estimates. Taking your measurements with a measuring tape and comparing them to the listing's measurements is the most dependable way to know how a garment will fit you.

when the measurements say that a garment's waistband stretches to a certain number of inches, that number is general, too. For example, if you have 40" hips but you are looking at a skirt that only "stretches to" 38," you will almost certainly be able to get it on over your hips. Most garments actually stretch a bit more than the listings say (for the purposes of fitting over hips/shoulders).

The poema shop does not perform alterations or tailoring, but some customers have had success with their local tailors when a slightly different fit or length has been desired.

Returns and exchanges
I charge a 15% re-stocking fee for all returns, and I can't refund shipping costs. Please check my extremely careful measurements against your own before making a purchase to be sure that the item will fit you.

If you decide to return a piece, these are the conditions:

You must let me know within three days of receiving your package that you will be returning it.

It must be sent back in its original packaging and in perfect condition.

Your refund will be issued as soon as I receive the package (minus the 15% re-stocking fee).
Shipping costs will vary depending on the size and weight of the garments you purchase, and depending on how far the package has to be shipped. US customers have the option to choose between priority and priority express mail; international customers can choose between first class, priority international, and priority express international.

PLEASE NOTE: If you are an international customer and you choose first class shipping, we can’t be responsible if your package gets lost in the mail. First class shipping is uninsured and not trackable once it leaves the United States. Though most first class packages arrive internationally without incident, there is the occasional disappearing package. The risk is up to you, but we recommend opting for a more secure method of shipment.

Most orders will ship the same day or the day after being placed. You'll get an email from Etsy when your package ships.

If you are an international customer and your country has strict customs policies or fees, I'm sorry but I can't be responsible for those. I use an automated label printer, so the customs form on your package will report the exact value of your purchase. If you have specific concerns about how your package is mailed, please leave a note about it in the "note to seller" section and I will see what I can do.
Additional policies and FAQs

Dry cleaning is highly recommended so as not to risk harming your garment. Handled with care, poema clothing will last for hundreds of milongas!

If your garment is pure silk, you can wash it at your own risk (gently in cold water), but you will have to iron it carefully to return the silk to its original luster. If your silk is printed, washing it in water may cause slight fading.

Most poema tops can be washed gently in cold water and laid flat to dry.

Skirts and dresses with mixed fabrics (knits & silks sewn together) should definitely be dry cleaned.
