About

Upcycled Scrabble tile pendants with Jewish designs and Hebrew sayings, Judaica jewelry, handcrafted Judaica cards, handwoven tallitot (prayer shawls)

I think every artist reaches a critical point where he or she has to decide to take that big step of putting personal creations into the public arena: my art makes me happy, but will it make others happy, as well?

As someone with bachelor's and master's degrees in the not-very-useful field of poetry, I had embraced the writer within me, but I didn't consider myself a visual artist. I parlayed my writing skills into a career working with nonprofit organizations as a grantwriter, and in 2002, made the leap from working as an employee at community-based organizations to having my own consulting business. I am now able to help a variety of organizations raise much-needed funds, and I can do it all from the comfort of my home office.

I have always been interested in arts and crafts. I've been making jewelry for a long time, and about 15 years ago, I learned to weave. Five years ago I discovered collage and mixed media, and was hooked!

I began my Etsy experience with this shop, Poemweave Designs, after I became intrigued with Scrabble tile pendants (letters! words!) and noticed there were few designs available that featured Judaic themes. Then I added a second shop--Gratitude Jewelry - gratitudejewelry.etsy.com - when I began to experiment with designs that would resonate with writers and volunteers after being invited to have a booth at a local conference for grantwriters.

I added sterling and copper beaded and wire-wrapped jewelry featuring inspirational words in Hebrew, and a line of cards. My handwoven prayer shawls (tallit) are also available in my shop.

I soon found that my art did indeed make people happy, and, in addition to Etsy, began to sell my work wholesale and at local art fairs. My Scrabble tiles are available in many different formats: as pendants and pins, on cuff links or tie clips, on keychains or zipper pulls, or on book marks.

My studio shares space with my office, and I will often be found working on a grant proposal while Scrabble tiles dry on my desk. There's glue on my keyboard and mouse, and puddles of spilled resin on my desk, but I view those as trophies of a balanced life.

Thank you for visiting Poemweave Designs!
