Beautiful oil painting, I love it. You are a very creative and talented Artist. Thank You so much :)

About

The art of just doing things

The difference between me and a lot of other people isn´t that I am wildly talented and they are not. It´s just that I never believed certain thoughts in my head that told me I wasn´t able to do stuff. I am the kind of person who just does something, despite the circumstances.

As a child I endlessly made drawings of Disney figures like the Lion King. While they were probably not perfect at all, this basic ability to draw things proved to be a huge help with learning how to paint. I think it was in 2009 when I picked up painting. First I started out with acrylic paint, because then I thought well that must be easier than oil paint. So after a few years of painting almost every evening after work, I sort of got the gist of it.

Then I started thinking if I really want to get good and do something with it, then I might as well attend an art school (sometimes it's wiser not to insist on inventing the wheel yourself and first learn from other people!). So I went to this big art school in Amsterdam which was very modernist oriented. It proved to be a decent introduction to painting and art in general. But after the first year, I drawed the conclusion that at this school they are absolutely uncapable of teaching me original painting techniques of the old masters. There was just no teacher present doing anything that even vaguely resembled that.

That´s when I found out about the Classical Academy of painting in Groningen. A very small art school with a great atmosphere and some excellent teachers. Who actually knew how to paint. I followed this school for two years, learned everything about oil painting, preparing canvases, composition, colour, perspective and the history and interpretation of art. Then I decided to go further on my own, set up a website, a pretty online shop and hold regular expositions in my area.

So that´s were I am now. I do hope my story inspires you and maybe take up painting or some other form of art as well!

I´ve always had a huge interest in creative subjects like music and the visual arts. After my studies in philosophy, I went to a classic art academy in Holland. Were I learned all the different aspects of oil painting and painting in general.

How long will it take before the painting arrives?

The paintings with different sizes to choose from are painted when you order one. Oil paint needs at least one week of drying time before I can safely send it.

Then after posting, it depends where you are located relative to Amsterdam (The Netherlands), how much time the shipping will take.

PS the reason I work this way is that my painting technique is now actually better than a few years ago. Also for myself I often paint on cardboard (it is easier to store).

How long will a painting last?

If kept in good room condition and out of direct sunlight, in theory, oil paintings might last 200-300 years. I use a proper way of grounding panels for oil paint, and only pigments with most excellent lightfastness. Therefore the colours are not likely to change over time.

So the first 30 years nothing big should be visually happening with the painting. After +/- 30 years the painting might start to yellow a bit, and mild craquele might appear (although this cracking of the paint is also not very likely since a very stable panel is used).

These effects are by the way a natural consequence of a painting getting old, and have a certain beauty in themselves!

Sizing details

With most paintings I have different sizes to choose from. This allows also people on a small budget to acquire a work of mine. I will do my best to get most of the detail in even on the smallest sized panels.

Do the paintings need to be framed?

No. Actually I think framing is a bit out-dated! But that's my personal opinion. Paintings on panel can hang unframed without any problem. The paintings have a simple hanging system on the back. So that it can hang with just one nail, hook or screw (preferably a little hook).
