Polar Pen Pal combines facts & fantasy for a fun and interactive way for kids to learn about the Arctic. All the stories, photos, and information shared are based on our family's REAL northern life Iqaluit, Nunavut. For the sake of simplicity, we share all the information through the voices of two people; Mark and Meeka.

Mark is the cartoon version of our son, "frozen in time" at 11 years old. The stories and experiences we share about Mark are based on actual events in our family’s life.

“Meeka” is inspired by a few Inuit friends combined into one character to share the unique perspective of one who has been born and raised in Nunavut. We use both characters to be able to offer a realistic rounded out view of Arctic life. The stories we share about Meeka are based on actual events in our friend’s lives.

“Tukto” is their loyal companion and sidekick, an Iqaluit born and bred sled dog who loves exploring the land. She is a real dog, now 8 years old, who has a life filled with adventure and “close calls”...like the time she was drifting away on an iceberg! The stories we share about Tukto are based on actual events in her life (they may sound crazy but they are true!)

All postcards sent out are handwritten by Mark's family. We share information about the north and personal anecdotes about our experiences here.

In addition to offering digital downloadable products for interactive ways to learn about the Arctic, we offer a personalized postcard pen pal service with the opportunity for kids to write or email their northern questions and receive personalized responses. We aim to bring the north to you (without the cold) :)
