from old to new
From an early age my parents instilled in me the appreciation for quality design and natural beauty. On a practical level they also taught me to treasure old items and re-use or even reinvent their purpose. My mum, a fabulous crafts-woman, introduced me to crafting and I was lucky to experience, train and practice many different craft forms over the years. My pieces reflect these experiences and values, combining beauty and practicality.
The craft form I always return to is embroidery. I love to feel the fabric under my fingers and watch the design grow, stitch by stitch. I use my embroidery time to think and reflect - it almost becomes a form of meditation to me. I have been honing my embroidery skills at the Royal School of Needlework in Hampton Court for the past two years, taking both day classes and joining their Certificate and Diploma Program. It is a true privilege to be able to study the art of embroidery at such a renowned place.
Currently studying also for a City & Guilds Certificate in Bookbinding I am embarking on a new journey - combining my love for embroidery with another old craft that of bookbinding.
I hope that there are also one or two pieces in my collection that capture your heart and imagination and maybe even make you smile!
