5 out of 5 starsWhat a handsome print! Cannot wait to get this framed. We’ve been wanting a blue heron print for some time now, and this one ticks all the boxes - beautiful, amazing details. Shipping was speedy and artwork was very carefully packaged - expert use of recycled materials 👍

After pressing the back of the paper with a baren, I carefully peal it off the block.

Luscious inks rolled on a woodblock.

Ideas, sketching, design and planning all need to happen before I start carving the wood.

Occasionally I display and sell my prints and drawings at regional art shows in Florida.

Designing, carving, inking and printing: each of my woodblocks involves multiple blocks.
An Artist's Life
A lifetime of artmaking in many media has led me to handprinted woodblocks. This is a relief printing process, similar to linoleum block printing or stamping. I enjoy carving the block, rolling the ink and seeing the image emerge. The texture of ink and wood, the graphic qualities of the images, and the overlapping layers make this process a delight. Recently I've been creating collages made from my own prints. Textures, patterns, human figures and animals are cut, snipped and pasted together to create one-of-a-kind mixed media works.
Though I've printed on large presses, the simplicity of hand printing with a baren in my studio works best for me now. My editions are small and may be variable; each listed print and card is the exact one you will receive when you purchase. Print prices vary depending on size, complexity, number of colors, paper quality and mounting methods.
You can see more of my work on Instagram.com and Facebook, incuding posts on how woodcuts are made and work in progress. Follow me @polyphemus.polly on IG and @pperkinsstudio on FB.
Since 2008, I've shared my art with a wide audience, thanks to my Etsy shop. People in Australia, England and California have purchased art from me. I really enjoy being able to send my work out into the world through Etsy. Please convo me if you have any questions about my work; I'd love to hear from you.
Thanks for visiting!
