Skirt came out so cute! It took me around 2 to 3 hours. It was an enjoyable evening sewing. 2 fabric pieces: I love this.

About

The Girl and the Pollywogs...

My daughter gets all the credit for inspiring me to start Pollywoggles Patterns... right down to the name itself!

She was about 2 years old when I really started sewing for her in earnest. She loved dressing up, and I loved this new outlet for my sewing skills! Having learned basic sewing as a child and pursued it as a hobby (even designing for myself on occasion) for many years, I very quickly found myself reaching less for patterns from my collection, and preferring more to sketch and work out unique designs based on my daughters' needs and things that inspired me. The first entirely unique design I made for her was a shirred top bubble dress in a breezy mint green eyelet. After that (and never being one to do things by halves), I took to pursuing this new creative outlet full force, learning about pattern making and teaching myself the software for digitalizing. A little over a year after that first simple dress design, I decided that I was ready to begin sharing my designs and what I've learned with others. Then, while working through testing the first two patterns that I wanted to open my shop with, inspiration finally struck with regards to how I wanted to brand myself... and Pollywoggles came to be.

We're blessed to live in cottage country, and our 10 acres include a few acres of Canadian beaver pond. While out exploring with my little ones, we discovered that the tadpoles were out! We homeschool and this was a great opportunity to teach the kids about the lifecycle of frogs... there's nothing like hands-on learning. What I didn't anticipate was that this might be a little advanced for my now 3.5 year old daughter. I could tell that she thought the whole idea that something that looked so silly would turn into the four-legged hopping creatures she was more familiar with was a bit hard to believe. Then, when I said that tadpoles are also sometimes called Pollywogs, she started laughing. I'm not sure if it's because she thought it was a funny name, or if she simply believed I was joking.

With her impish grin (and in spite of her purple tutu), she joined her brothers splashing through the shallows trying to catch what she insisted on now calling "Pollywoggles". I know everyone thinks their kids are the cutest some times... but, come on, THAT is cute!

That day I decided that Pollywoggles was the right name for my patterns. My kids are constantly growing and changing, little bits at a time. It's strange to think that it won't be long before they are almost completely unrecognizable as the same little beings that they were when they first came into our lives. I truly enjoy designing and making fun clothing for them to wear and enjoy, and I hope to continue to do so for as many years as they will let me! I hope that you too will enjoy making my designs for YOUR special little ones.

Frequently asked questions

How do I use a PDF Sewing Pattern?

In order to open and read the file once it has been downloaded, you will need Adobe. This is a free program that you may already have installed on your computer. If not, you can get it here: www.get.adobe.com/reader

In the pattern, you will find all the information you need to start sewing, including which pages to print and how to assemble the pattern pieces.

If you need assistance, please don't hesitate to contact me and I will be happy to help you out.

What do your patterns look like?

Pollywoggles pattern pieces are "nested", which means all sizes will print together (a printing guide is included for which pages to print for specific sizes). The lines are color coded by size. In the case of rectangular pattern pieces, most of the time they will be given in the form of a chart of measurements. Charts will be included with the printable pieces as well as be listed before the step-by-step portion of the pattern.

The pattern includes detailed photographs and/or illustrations and written instructions for every step.

What seam allowance do your patterns use?

All of my patterns will have a 3/8" (1 cm) or 1/4" (6mm) seam allowance, and it is stated on the first page of the pattern as well as in the pattern details. If the seam allowance changes for specific steps in an individual pattern, that is clearly stated. All pattern piece measurements and templates include the seam allowance.

Can I sell items I make with your patterns?

Absolutely! If you are a home sewist or have a small business selling handmade garments, you are welcome and encouraged to make and sell a finished product from my patterns. All that is requested is that you credit Pollywoggles Patterns as the pattern designer if someone asks, and that any photographs you use are your own.

Please note that the pattern itself is intended for use only by the purchaser. Patterns are original designs by Pollywoggles and may not be shared with or copied, modified, or distributed to another individual by any means, including electronic, photocopy, or otherwise. If you have any questions regarding specific pattern use and permissions, please don't hesitate to ask.
