Additional policies and FAQs
Pomp and Pride provides measurements for each garment. these are not body measurements, so please allow some room for ease of movement and comfort. i indicate when the fabric has give or stretch to it. all garments are measured flat across and the measurements doubled.

a note on measuring yourself: please do it properly! use a completely flexible tailor's measuring tape, NOT the kind you find at the hardware store to measure walls and pieces of wood.

shoulder to shoulder - indicates the distance between the two shoulder seams on the garment. when measuring your shoulder width. run the tape from the top of one shoulder to the other just behind the neck.

bust/chest - indicates the distance around the bustline of the garment; it is usually measured from one underarm to the other. when darts or cups provide more room, this is indicated. when measuring yourself, wrap the tape around the fullest part of your bust, taking care not to compress the area.

waist - indicates the measurement of area of the bodice where the natural waist will be when worn; this is generally the smallest part of the bodice. when measuring your own waist, make sure the tape is evenly horizontal around your body and high up enough - it should be just below your ribcage, in the smallest area between your bust and hips. take care not to pull the tape tight, rather wrap it gently around.

hips - indicates the measurement of the widest part of the hips, often the widest point in a dress. when measuring your hips, do not measure the hipbones. measure around the very widest point of the hip area, above the thighs and below the hipbones. wrap the tape gently and take care that it is evenly horizontal when taking the measurement.

sleeve length - indicates the distance from the top of the shoulder to the hem or cuff of the sleeve. a properly-fitting long sleeve should hit the top of hand above the thumb when the arm is relaxed and move up to the wrist when the elbow is bent.

length - indicates the distance from the top of the shoulder (not the back neck!) to the hem straight down in the case of a dress, top, or coat. in the case of a skirt, this indicates the distance from the waistband to the hem.
