About

From Telephone Poles to Sewing Machines

I started my career a long time ago as an installer for the telephone company. Progressed from climbing poles to a statewide support team, loved all my jobs along the way, it was a terrific place to work. But all good things must come to an end. I left after finishing 30 years there at the early age of 51. Most people don't get to retire that early, I was lucky. I knew I would want to work at something but didn't have a plan. I made a few tote bags one year for some girlfriends as a gift for Christmas. And of course they started with, you should sell these! Not so easy to do as I have found out over the last 3 years. I have tried retail ,online, wholesale, craft fairs, farmers markets, tag sales-you name it! They all work to some degree but are a lot of hard work. I am now at a comfortable spot, the online goes well, I have some retail locations and I do a few craft fairs through out the year. A nice mix and keeps me plenty busy. I also babysit part time for a Nanny service so that fills in the gaps if I get bored-which is never.
My biggest satisfaction from doing the sewing comes from being able to reuse a fabric or textile that might otherwise have been tossed. Hence the burlap bags, yes they throw them out, the denim and vintage items. I do consider myself a bit of a fabric "whore", I do succumb to a good sale or a beautiful piece of new material if I happen to grace the inside of a fabric store. Subsequently I have a huge stock of fabric to choose from in my basement sweat shop.
I like to do other stuff too. I paint when the urge hits me, I do the gourds into birdhouses. I love glitter, have been known to put it everywhere and also have a huge collection of buttons. Basically if it is considered a craft I have probably tried it and have the supplies to make it.
So if you need a custom item I would be happy to work with you, always up for the challenge!

I love what I do but I couldn't do it alone. My best friend, my husband and my biggest fan, Tom, is by my side. His support and good humor help tremendously!

My 2 part time helpers when I am in a panic and can't get it all done. They iron, paint, shop and offer creative input. Love them both all the time and even more when they help me out of a pinch
