About

Mid Century Now

Welcome to Retro Evolution Design where our goal is to create new or restored pieces to accommodate the trends of today and beyond. To capture the sleek retro vibe that is mid century modern and infuse it with the different styles and interior spaces of the present. To preserve what is classic while still offering something new. To evolve.
We are a collaboration of three family members ( brother , sister, and a nephew) all with different skills sets and all very creative. Brother Jim, iron designer, has owned and operated an ornamental iron design shop, Sister Cathy has had an upholstery shop and the young one, Steven, has always had an interest in woodworking . Hence the three materials of iron, fabric and wood.

Dear valued purchasers, June 2015

Thank you for your years of support towards Jim's creations.

As fellow artists we are aware that with creativity come changes. Jim is more aware of that concept now than ever before.
Jim has been diagnosed with ALS , Lou Gehrig's disease. For the past year Jim has found a new way to create and continue sharing his talents. With the loss of mobility with his hands and legs he now uses his wheel chair to make his brush strokes on large canvas stapled to the floor. He is once again building new iron designs. For months these designs were only in his own creative mind, now they will now be out to enjoy. Jim is instructing new welders to finish the furniture items that so many have enjoyed and to make the new designs.
We want to thank Etsy for its site in allowing Jim's legacy to be remembered. We thank those that have ordered items for their patience and valued support as we train others to create Jim's design.

We will be posting some of the new creations of art that Jim has been working on throughout his diagnoses of ALS. Be inspired to never give up on your dreams your hopes and your future. As long as Jim's breathing creativity will live in his story.

We crate our large furniture items for transport. They come securely strapped to a custom sized wooden frame crate with cardboard stapled to the outside wrapped in packing tape. We work hard to get our products to look great and we want to be confident they arrive just as great and undamaged. A box cutter and a hammer or small pry bar is recommended for opening the crate.

Shipping on most large furniture items is via Greyhound. Name, valid contact number, and preferred Greyhound Station of delivery are required for shipping. Greyhound MUST have a valid contact number to call and inform you when your item has arrived and is ready to be picked up. Greyhound only accepts declared values up to $300. Buyers assumes risk exceeding that amount.

Single smaller items, such as standard or smaller cat's cradle bases, small tristar bases, hairpin legs, etc. may be shipped USPS parcel post.

Local Pickup is welcomed. Please inquire if the specific item you are interested in is available for pick up to your area. (LA or SF/SAC) If it is you may purchase the item and ask the shipping cost be refunded or ask that a specific listing be made for you with the shipping cost set at $1.

Custom Orders

Metal Work - We will create customized dimensions or of our products such as table bases, bar stools, etc or possibly work with an idea to create something new if we feel there is valve potential. Customized dimensions of single items are typically material and production wise less efficient to create and may also require that specific temporary jigs also be made. As such a price increase will be applied to reflect these changes and the lead time should be expected to be greater. Price increase will typically be 25-100% greater depending on how they effect the above. Larger orders of multiple items the custom charge may be waived.

Upholstery Fabrics - If we direct you to one of our fabric suppliers web sites to browse the different upholstery choices there are literally thousands of different choices consisting of different colors, patterns, sheen, materials in various different grades and qualities. All fabrics are subject to approval as certain qualities, materials, or patterns may simply be an incorrect choice for a specific piece. The first step in doing a quality upholstery job is picking the right material to recover the piece. We are more then willing to help and point you towards appropriate collections and materials. Additional material cost will be added to the price.
