Art Is My Happy Place

The Short Story:
Pop Of Color Print Shop was born during the COVID-19 Pandemic in 2020. Up until 2019, I was selling only physical items (art prints, art jewelry, original paintings) at galleries, art shows and online on my website: www.carolinacotoart.com . Then I (as the rest of the world) found myself in this new "reality" and a lot of time in my studio due to the lockdowns. After paralyzing fear and confusion, my brain started going at 1000mph, and after many hours of scanning, editing, brainstorming, creating and more, this little shop was born.

The Long Story:
When I was about 9, my dad, who was a great hobbyist painter, picked up his brushes again. He started taking the family to little art shows in the city (in San José, Costa Rica) on the weekends, where he would chat with the artists and get tips to grow his own practice. Since then, I wanted to be an artist too. When I was about 15, I remember arguing in the car with my dad on the way to see my grandparents (in Costa Rica it is not unusual for the whole family to gather every Sunday, in my family's case, my paternal grandparents house was the "club house"). We were arguing because he really wanted me to go to University and I kept saying I didn't want to go. He asked why? I said: "because all I want is to be an artist", he said I could study art in University (I have no idea why my teenager self was not aware of this fact...). "Oh!, then I do want to go to University" I said.

I did go to University, in fact, I love studying in general, I'm a quite a nerd. I graduated with a BFA in 2007 from University of Costa Rica and I've been a full time artist now for 9 years. I love it. This is my passion, this is my happy place and I hope my art can bring some joy into your life and your home as well.

Hi! I'm Carolina, a Costa Rican/American artist. Art is my passion and my profession, I graduated in 2007 with a BFA from University of Costa Rica. I love color and I love modern home decor, and this little shop was created with both in mind.

Frequently asked questions
Where do I download my files?

You can download them in your purchases section:
http://www.etsy.com/your/purchases

How do I print the artwork?

There's several ways:
AT HOME: Using the best quality card-stock paper you can find (at Office Depot, Staples, Walmart, etc) or matte photo paper. The final print quality depends on the type of printer and paper used. Colors may appear different in person than on screen.

YOUR LOCAL PRINTING PLACE:
Staples, Costco, Fedex, Kinkos, Office Max, etc (ask around in your community, some places are better than others and the in-store printing quality may vary for the same store in different towns)

PRINT ONLINE:
If you want your art print in a large size, online printing is probably where you will get the best quality and options: Canvas prints, metal prints, poster prints, framed prints, you name it. Here are my recommendations:

What places do you recommend to print online?

I’ve always had a great experience with CGProPrints: https://www.cgproprints.com
I’ve not used the following companies but have read good things about them:
Printful, Mpix, Canvas Pop and Finerworks.

The advantage of using a print online company is that you can receive a piece or art that is ready to hang, since they offer framed prints, canvas prints, etc. If you dread the whole DIY art framing process (I frame my own originals to sell at galleries and art shows and believe me, it is not my favorite thing) this is definitely the option for you. Specially for larger pieces, printing online is surprisingly affordable. Do shop around though!

Do you paint all the artwork?

Yes! This is all my work :). I have a Fine Arts degree and this is what I do for a living. I opened Pop Of Color Print Shop in April 2020 to offer affordable art, focused on home decor.

I have another shop here on Etsy, where I sell a bit different type of work printed (not as downloads) as well as the jewelry I make with prints of my art or hand painted. You can check it out here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/CarolinaCotoArt . I had opened this shop in 2015, but had closed it shortly after to focus on the shop on my own website (www.carolinacotoart.com) but with the Coronavirus Pandemic, and the extra time in hand, with all the art shows that got cancelled, it was great timing to re open my original Etsy shop, and open a new one ;).
