About

women's timeless, comfortable and sensual APPAREL...

My background in clothing design is multifaceted. As a young teen, I worked in a vintage clothing store, admiring the attention to detail, unique silhouettes and beautiful fabrics. I took many sewing classes as a child and now wanted to create my own designs inspired by what I saw.

Later in life, I worked at a specialty fabric store and began falling in love with the folkwear and past patterns, linen, silk, velvet and wool. There were so many beautiful textiles, button, trims and possibilities. After several years at this shop, I knew I wanted to refine my skills as a designer. I applied to the Master's of Costume Design program at our local college and entered the world of theatre. This was one of my favorite times. I loved learning about the history of clothing and trying to replicate it with my own twist!

After graduation, I was hired as a designer at a technical outerwear apparel company. This was a completely different world, but with my skills I was able to learn about the synthetic fabrics, trims, important outerwear features and create some wonderful garments.

Although I admire the quality and function of technical apparel, I missed designing beautiful soft womens clothing. This is where POPPY came to life.

POPPY was created to express my desires for women's clothing. I wanted to create comfortable, sensual and timeless pieces that would accentuate and complement a woman's figure while still allowing her to move freely. I have always loved bright colors and wanted to incorporate them into beautifully designed styles. I hope you love them as much as I do!

The story behind POPPY:
I also have an Etsy shop with my fine art designs and wanted to come up with a simple feminine name that would represent my love of nature and the feminine elegance I strive for in my clothing. Not only are poppies one of my favorite flowers, but they have a mystical element to them and a compelling history. They are bright, bold and sensual.

Perfect!

Thank you so much for purchasing one of my handmade creations. It means a lot to me to be able to do what I love best and your purchase is helping me to do this!

APPAREL:
FABRICS:
Currently I use 4 different types of fabrics with my handmade apparel. The exception is any of my up-cycled garments which can be made from anything. I will detail any fabric information on these garments in the listing.

92% Certified Organic Cotton 8% Spandex:
This fabric is a medium weight cotton with a great amount of stretch. It feels supportive and is great for fitted garments that still allow for freedom of movement.

92%Bamboo 8% Spandex:
This fabric is a mid to light weight fabric with a wonderful drape and a lots of stretch. It dyes with the most brilliant and saturated colors and works really well for my designs that require a nice flowing draping quality.

100% Certified Organic Cotton Jersey
This fabric is a mid weight cotton with a very soft hand. It only has a minor amount of inherent stretch so works well for loose garments.

100% Certified Organic Cotton Sherpa
This is a heavy weight fabric with a smooth surface on one side and a very lush brushed surface on the other. It's like a fleece, but way more fuzzy. It only has a minor amount of stretch so works well for loose jackets and sweaters.

CARE:
All fabrics and up-cycled garments have been previously washed and dried. However, some up-cycled garments use fibers such as wool that can continuously shrink with agitation.

I recommend washing all new apparel separately for the first wash. For subsequent washing I recommend hand washing with cool water and similar colors or using a gentle cycle for all garments and then hanging them to dry. This will make your garment last the longest.

MEASUREMENTS:
These are the measurements that I use when drafting my patterns. If the garment differs from my size chart, I'll describe the measurements in the description of the garment. Also, if your measurements differ from from my sizing, please send me a message telling me what garment your interested in and your measurements.
