About

Linen and Love

My love of making came from my Nana. Way back in the dusty late 1970's, I loved to sit in my Nana's lean to (that's what an optimistic estate agent might call an Orangerie nowadays) making shell dolls and delving through her splendid button tin to find the perfect finishing touch for my Sindy doll's latest outfit. With little skill or knowledge but plenty of enthusiasm I went on to sew my way through an eclectic mix of fabulous outfits in the 80's.

I left my Northern Ireland home to study Sociology in London but I knew deep down I may have taken the wrong career path and thankfully London's wide range of inspiring night classes meant my creative urges were easily fulfilled. Pottery became my passion and when I moved out of London, first to Hertfordshire and then to rural Rutland I continued with classes and then began to work independently from my own studio. My rather large and ancient kiln followed me to Wales but it was a few years before our very rural location had sufficient electricity to keep the darned thing going. My desire to make something, anything and my growing family's needs led me back to textiles and sewing. Unable to find lovely things for my daughter to wear I began to sew simple clothing from the gorgeous tactile linens and Liberty of London print cottons that I had been hoarding for years.

I was beyond thrilled to receive my first commissions and gradually, through word of mouth I soon found I was stocking galleries and beautiful independent shops with the things I made.

After several years in Wales we found ourselves back in England under the wide skies of beautiful Suffolk. By now I was firmly in love with textiles and exploring all sorts of possibilities. Today I design a wide range of accessories, personalised gifts for weddings, anniversaries and keepsake decorative items. I still work with the same natural, elegant linen and Liberty of London fabrics and I am still closely involved in the making each item. All the freehand embroidery is completed by me and is my very favourite part of the process. I normally embroider early in the morning before the studio gets really busy and I love the gentle, meditative motion of moving the fabric beneath the needle and drawing with thread.

Every single day I feel incredibly happy to be doing a job I love.

I love beautiful fabrics, soft knitting wool, conversations with the dog, yoga, my husband, my children, wide open Suffolk skies, noisy Sunday dinners with friends and family, the smell of lavender in summer, sand between my toes, laughter

Studio cheerleader, always on hand to release stress and encourage regular breaks from work. Loves having his ears tickled, walks in the sunshine, rain, wind, snow, long naps, breakfast, dinner and helping load the dishwasher.
