postgatejewelers' Shop Announcement

Welcome to Postgate Jewelers! George and Suzan Postgate design and make all of the jewelery. We love and work in several styles from Art Deco to Ancient Celtic.

We love making custom pieces. There is nothing we enjoy more than exceeding our customers expectations with a beautiful creation.

We also have a shop page on Face Book ( www.facebook.com/pages/Postgate-Fine-Jewelers/111540785537658 ). We use this shop to enable people to look beneath the surface, to see images of pieces as they are being made and their designs are being worked out, still in the wax. We send images like these to customers who can then send us their feedback and help us in our quest to make them their most memorable and loved treasures. you will also find images of many of those pieces finished.

You will also find many custom and show pieces on our Face Book shop that we have done over the years ( 1969-present ). These are very unusual as well as beautiful so take a peek and let us know how you like them.

Please remember that we want you to make any purchases through etsy if this is where you found us. Etsy has been a great way to find new friends and customers.

For the least environmental impact we use only recycled silver and gold from Hoover and Strong Refiners.

All of our stones are natural and of high quality. We also work with ancient coins and artifacts in our work.

PAYMENT We prefer pay-pal but as a convenience we will accept personal checks as well as money orders with the exception of Western Union. WE WILL NOT SHIP until our bank assures us that the payment is good unless we are dealing with a well known customer. THIS MAY DELAY SHIPPING SEVERAL WEEKS.

Additional Policies and FAQs

Our work is completely made by ourselves, from the original design to finial buffing. We believe that anything done to a piece has a bearing on its success and should be guided by its designer.
We consider ourselves artists first and spend as long as it takes on each piece to make it as beautiful and pleasing as possible. We use any and all techniques at our disposal to make this happen.
Stones:
We have developed many resources for stones over the years and can find just about any stone in a good to fine quality. In general we use the best quality natural gemstones we can find for a reasonable price. In diamonds that translates to an H or better in color and a clarity grade of VS1to SI1 and a good cut. Stones in this range are beautiful and represent the best value. We will happily supply higher grades if requested. Colored stones represent more of a challenge as there are new treatments coming out every day. Some are traditional such as heating for (corundum) ruby and sapphires and some fracture filling in emeralds. These treatments have been used for hundreds of years and in the case of heating are permanent. I would be very suspicious of anyone selling any of these as untreated unless confirmed by a reputable gemologist. Other treatments like irradiation and diffusion are things we do our best to avoid. Even well qualified gemologists sometimes make mistakes though so we can not guarantee that no treatment will escape us.
Customers Stones:
We prefer to provide the stones for any custom work ourselves. There are risks associated with using customers stones for us as well as the customer. Many years ago I was given a stone to set that the customer identified as a diamond. It was in fact a cz. If I hadn't noticed it before accepting the commission, I could have been accused of switching stones later. I also vividly remember a friend who took in a diamond ring in for sizing. The marquis diamond in the ring exploded when it was heated. It turned out to be a cz...
As a result we do not guarantee any stone provided by a customer in any way. We do still set customers stones as a courtesy but please understand that it is at your risk. If you do still want us to set your stone please take it to an independent gemologist and have it examined ( send us a copy ) so you can be sure its yours when you receive your piece.
