Power to Make

Announcement    Designed and made in Melbourne. Our range includes interlocking wine racks, magazine racks, magnetic picture frames made from furniture grade birch plywood.

Power to Make is set up as micro-manufacturing facility located in Melbourne. It is the principal manufacturing / retail arm for the furniture and art projects of LLDS. Power to Make explores fabrication direct from digital model to physical object; merging craft with digital processes. Our ethos is to capitalise on digital processes so we can produce customisable designs and services that are comparable to mass produce items; giving everyone the power to make.

All our products are CNC routed uses birch plywood as the main material. We use timber because of its warmth and workability. In addition, it's a sustainable and renewable material; we only use FSC certified timber and finish them with natural wood wax. Keeping our material palette simple means that we reduced our supply chain and thereby allowing us to deliver beautiful product for less.

Our online shop showcase a selection of our products only, especially the smaller items for ease of shipping. Our furniture collections and art objects are available to view on our website, www.powertomake.com.au.

We offer digital fabricating services for designers, architects and artists through collaboration, consultation and leasing access to our 3-axis CNC router and workshop.

Power to Make things ...

In our past life, we are both architects. Sitting in our office, frustrated by what we build is never what we really draw.

We start to play with CNC technology and decided that perhaps this is the future of making things? You draw and model and then output them directly to the machine without having to make any orthographic drawings or dimensioning. This is liberating, almost too liberating for designer like us.

When we both landed in Melbourne from the UK (almost two years now), we put all our savings into buying our own CNC router and set up the little workshop. Initially the workshop is empty, with only the CNC machine, a few sheets of plywood and our laptops. Two years on, the workshop is packed full of prototypes (mostly failed one), stocks and other equipment.

We are glad that our client enjoys the product we designed and thank you all for your support which makes micro manufacturing unit like us possible. Please continue to support our products and design and let others know that they too have the Power to Make things...
