I love my comics too much to keep them in dusty long boxes in the closet. After I've read the stories and pored over the pictures, I want to enjoy my comics again, as a medium for new art. I sell original, handmade pieces--no prints here--constructed out of the amazing art of old comic books.

5 out of 5 starsAmy is incredible! This collage is so awesome and I'm so happy to have it. It was shipped promptly, with great care, and I look forward to seeing what she does next. If you geek out over comics like we do, talk to this girl and have her create a one of a kind piece for your collection. You won't be disappointed!!
About PowerUpCollage

I have to spread things out to see all my options. This 12X36" custom piece monopolized the dining room table for days.
-
I cut the letters out of card stock and collage them separately before doing the background.
-
Edging the letters in acrylic paint makes them stand out. Bottle caps make excellent tiny paint palettes.
Onomatopoeia or What Inspiration Sounds Like
Call me a nerd, a geek, whatever you like, I accept it. Being a geek is about getting excited, and I get excited about the things I love. I geek out. I go on. One of the things I love is comics. I especially love the combination of visual art and story, image and words. I love this because I'm a visual artist and a writer, or maybe I'm a visual artist and writer because I love this so much.
When I finish reading and pouring over the pictures in my favorite comics, I use the pages to make collages, usually of iconic comic book sound effects--all those BAM, POW, BIFF noises non-geeks like to tease us about. I know this sounds like sacrilege to some collectors, but one of the things I love in art is finding new uses for old things, and I've never been one to horde my treasures. My action figures are all out of their boxes, scuffed up, and possibly blown up, and my comics are all for reading and sharing, not for collecting dust in long boxes.
My sound effect collages have received some kind attention from blogs like Laughing Squid and The Mary Sue. Thanks for that! My favorite part of making this art, though, is reliving my favorite comic book stories. Custom orders are the best because I get a chance to talk to other fans about what they love about comics. That love is contagious and exciting and the best reason I can think of to be a geek.
