About

Light as air and available in a rainbow of bright colors, each piece is a twist on the artistry of traditional origami.

I remember starting crafts at a very young age, around 5, learning how to sew with my Mom. My life's been filled and surrounded by creativity, I've always been drawn to art. I'm one of these people who collect fabrics, threads, stashes of buttons, markers, pencils, papers...

With my love of all things Japanese, I began collecting Japanese Chiyogami paper in 2008. Inspired by my scientific background, I experimented with it for a few months and discovered new creative ways to use this precious, delicate paper, beyond the art of folding.
The idea of making jewelry slowly emerged, and I first created my beads which became earrings and necklaces. I received much encouragement after releasing those first pieces, and I wanted to share and offer my products worldwide, and opened an Etsy shop!
From there, my jewelry has evolved into bold, colorful statement pieces that can be worn in any circumstance.

Every single pair of earrings, every pendant, every necklace is hand made. The paper is hand cut, making each piece absolutely unique as no two cuts are the same. I truly believe this is something my customers cherish.

My passion officially became PrettyKiku in 2011, established in the beautiful and crafty Austin,TX.
I've been an active member of Austin Craft Riot (formerly known as Etsy Austin) since early 2011.

I've been in love with Japanese arts as far as I can remember. I create unique, meticulous jewelry using traditional Chiyogami paper. I try to honor the beauty of the paper in every single one of my pieces. Paper is my precious medium.

Hello!
I am Manue of PrettyKiku! A French Designer in Austin, TX.

I sell colorful handmade Japanese Chiyogami paper and felt jewelry.

I get my inspiration from 2 different, unrelated sources. I’m a geologist specialized in mineralogy and have always harbored a strong passion for rocks, minerals and crystals – their different shapes, geometry, colors. I guess this explains my love for different materials and colors. The other side of my obvious inspiration comes from my fascination for Japan. I am in awe of their culture, their arts, their food, their landscape (as a geologist), their flora, their history… I admire how meticulous and thorough Japanese people can be. I try to honor that by making my own meticulous, time consuming little beads!
My bead process is very labor intensive. The making of one single Chiyogami paper bead - from cutting the paper to finishing the last coat of glaze - is about 10 minutes.

I believe each woman should experience the luxury of owning a piece of jewelry to match each and every one of her outfits. It is with that in mind that I create my pieces.

I hope you enjoy your visit, thank you for dropping by!

Domo Arigato!
