Crecí en la ciudad de Nueva York y me mudé a Pensilvania cuando era adolescente (lo sé, choque cultural) pero, dondequiera que viviera, siempre estaba elaborando y haciendo cosas. Mi mamá cosía la mayor parte de nuestra ropa, mis abuelas cosían, tejían y bordaban, mi abuelo era un excelente fotógrafo aficionado. La creatividad está en mi sangre. Pero, mientras cursaba títulos universitarios en arte y diseño gráfico, y durante una carrera como diseñador gráfico, no tuve tiempo para actividades astutas. Todo eso cambió cuando cambié a tiempo completo por freelance y comencé Primrose Design como un negocio a tiempo parcial.
Comencé creando almohadas únicas a partir de pañuelos, telas y botones vintage, luego agregué gradualmente otros estilos de almohadas y una variedad de productos cosidos que incluyen bolsitas de lavanda, accesorios pequeños (billeteras, bolsas con cremallera y llaveros) y artículos de cocina (paños de cocina embellecidos y portaollas).
Cada una de mis creaciones está hecha a mano siempre que sea posible a partir de materiales vintage reciclados: telas, sábanas bordadas, restos de edredones, botones, adornos de ganchillo, manteles viejos, delantales y pañuelos, lo que sea que encuentre en mis viajes. Me siento fuertemente a favor de reciclar y dar nueva vida a hermosos materiales vintage y me encanta la idea de preservar las tradiciones artesanales de una manera que sea más contemporánea y se adapte mejor a nuestros estilos de vida modernos. Es posible que no podamos usar sábanas bordadas como se pretendía originalmente, ¡pero hacen almohadas realmente geniales!
Me encantan todas las cosas vintage, pero especialmente los bordados kitsch (verduras bailando, cualquier cosa con gatos o pájaros), telas de las décadas de 1930 y 1940 (especialmente sacos de comida y flores a gran escala), botones de plástico en forma de flor, rick rack y adornos funky. Puedo hacer dulces y bonitas, pero me encantan las mezclas locas de telas, como las flores con lunares o rayas.
Mi pasatiempo favorito de fin de semana es buscar tesoros vintage para trabajar en mercados de pulgas, ventas de patio y centros comerciales de antigüedades. ¡Nunca sé lo que encontraré!

I grew up in New York City and moved to Pennsylvania when I was a teenager (I know, culture shock) but, wherever I lived, I was always crafting and making things. My Mom sewed most of our clothing, my grandmothers sewed and knitted and embroidered, my grandfather was an excellent amateur photographer. Creativity is in my blood. But, while pursuing college degrees in art and graphic design, and during a career as a graphic designer I didn’t have time for crafty pursuits. That all changed when I swapped full-time for freelance and started Primrose Design as a part-time business.
I began by creating one-of-a-kind pillows from vintage handkerchiefs, fabrics, and buttons, then gradually added other styles of pillows and a variety of sewn products including lavender sachets, small accessories (wallets, zippered bags, and key fobs), and kitchen items (embellished tea towels and pot holders).
Each of my creations is handcrafted whenever possible from recycled vintage materials—fabrics, embroidered linens, quilt scraps, buttons, crocheted trims, old tablecloths, aprons, and handkerchiefs—whatever I find in my travels. I feel strongly about recycling and giving new life to beautiful vintage materials and I love the idea of preserving craft traditions in a way that’s more contemporary and better suited to our modern lifestyles. We may not be able to use embroidered linens as they were originally intended but they make really cool pillows!
I love all things vintage but especially kitschy embroidery (dancing vegetables, anything with cats or birds), 1930s and 1940s fabrics (especially feed sacks and large-scale florals), flower-shaped plastic buttons, rick rack and funky trims. I can do sweet and pretty but I love crazy mixes of fabrics—like florals with polka dots or stripes.
My favorite weekend pastime is searching for vintage treasures to work with at flea markets, yard sales, and antique malls. I never know what I'll find!
