5 out of 5 starsThis was my second purchase from Kristen and it is so beautiful and well-made! The colors are bright and crisp. My 5 year old grandson loved the one I gave him last year from Kristen, and actually requested the same shirt in a bigger size! Kristen is very accessible by email and a pleasure to work with. I very highly recommend her shop!

I made 17 of these animal costumes for our church's nativity play this year. Love, love, love!
I never knew I'd love sewing so much.
When I was given a handmade dress for my 2-year-old daughter a number of years ago, I was immediately taken with how cute and unique it was--and with the idea that I could make an outfit for her myself. I had basic sewing knowledge, a very simple sewing machine I hadn't touched in several years, a bit of creativity, and just the right amount of confidence. So I found a pattern I thought I could muddle my way through and bought some fabric. Turns out that the whole process of making a dress was so satisfying that I made another one that same week. I made her wear those two dresses all summer because I loved seeing her wear them and I liked them so much.
I didn't stop with those two dresses! Sewing gave me energy when the happy chaos of being home with three toddlers wore me out. With some encouragement from friends I set up a shop on Etsy and never looked back. Now my kids are 12, 10, and 9. They won't wear what I make any more, but my 3-yr-old nephew makes up for it. Last year I added applique shirts to my Etsy shop, and making shirts keeps me busy for sure! I teach preschool and love those happy bundles of energy!
We live out in the country, and I'm an avid vegetable gardener and chicken keeper. I try to shop local and buy handmade items whenever it's feasible to support others like myself who have a gift and want to share it with others.

Custom and personalized orders
I gladly accept custom requests for dresses, costumes, and shirts if I am not swamped. I'll figure a price based on our conversation and create a custom listing, if necessary. I don't buy any shirts or materials until the order has been paid for.
Personalized shirts cost more than shirts without names. Most of my shirt listings have a personalization option built in with the price increase. If it doesn't, send me a convo so I can adjust the price.
Care instructions
I try not to make anything I can't throw in the washer and dryer. Many people hand wash and air dry applique shirts. I don't. I do too much laundry to be fussy about my kids' clothes!
However, I do suggest you wash shirts in cold water without fabric softener. And dry on low without dryer sheets. The stabilizer on the back of the design softens considerably with washing, though the applique may look rumpled. Iron it with a damp press cloth over the design to make it look new again. The protective backing can be ironed on again if it starts to come off.
Do you prewash shirts and fabric?
I prewash all cotton fabric I use for dresses. I use fragrance- and dye-free detergent and dry on high heat. Theoretically all shrinking and color bleeding happens in that first wash cycle!
I do not prewash shirts.
