About

"Lazy hands make a man poor, but diligent hands bring wealth"

A friend of mine recently asked me if I had "always been so crafty and talented". To which I replied, "I'm just doing what I know". Some of my fondest memories seemed to always include me watching either my grandmother or my mom creating things. My grandmother would have an entire new wardrobe sewn for each of us 7 grand kids at Christmas. Clothes hanging from the curtain rods, the banister, door jams, or whatever stood still long enough for her to use. As soon as I could safely use my mom's pinking shears, she was teaching me to sew.
Fast forward a few years through the blur that was high school. After years of making handmade gifts for friends and family, I was told that I need to sell these things to others. I had no idea how to do that, I had three small kids, a husband, and a mortgage. I had to work full time to pay the bills! A friend, who just so happened to be the recipient of my latest creation, told me that I needed to look into opening my own shop and get out of the day job that was stressing me out so badly. There was no way that was going to happen, I had bills to pay and we had just bought our first house, which was a fixer-upper. A few weeks later, I was having a particularly tough time at my day job and was very emotional when I absently picked up my Bible, hoping for some comfort and an answer in the form of Divine intervention. There it was, flashing like a neon sign, Proverbs 10:4 "Lazy hands make a man poor, but diligent hands bring wealth". Mind you, with three kids and a full-time job outside the home, my hands have never been lazy. I translated this to mean that if I ever wanted to have my own business with my handmade items, I needed to get busy. My etsy shop was born.
Two years after getting my etsy shop set up, I posted my first listing. Yes, you read that correctly, I had set up my shop and then waited two years to post anything. Call me crazy, I was under the impression that I needed to have page after page of beautiful, colorful, and uniquely made wares. When it comes to my crafting I am a perfectionist and a bit OCD to an extent. But, after overcoming so many hurdles along the way, I had 3 listings posted in 2010.
So, here I am today. I am still trying to get out of my "day job" and focus strictly on my handmade creations, but the bills still need to be paid. However, I am inching ever closer to my goal of being a full time Etsian and my own boss. It is so true, when my hands get lazy I'm not making any money, but when my hands are busy the orders come rolling in. So, here's to my hands never being lazy again!

Shop policies

Last updated on July 12, 2014
I chose my shop name based on the Bible verse Proverbs 10:4 which states "Lazy hands make a man poor, but diligent hands bring wealth". I felt this was appropriate since I hand-craft all of my products, whether it is starting from scratch or re-purposing an item. Whenever possible, I create a new item that can be personalized to fit the individual customer's needs. I hope my shop's patrons enjoy the products as much as I enjoyed making them.
