Announcement   Welcome to a world of uke, musical instruments, bicycles, people and life in action. The QualityFolk gallery features prints, unique sculptures and the Ukalaliens® Songbook: A Beginner's Guide to Ukulele Fun for absolute beginners, as illustrated through the eye, pen and imagination of artist-musician, Steve Einhorn.

Illustrator, sculptor and musician, Steve Einhorn, was born in New York City, raised in nearby Teaneck, New Jersey, and has been a resident of Portland, Oregon since 1978.

Steve's art mentors include Thomas Lord at the Museum of Modern Art school in New York City (1966-1967); Benny Andrews at the the New School for Social Research in Greenwich Village, New York City (1967-1968); painting with Walter Groer, drawing with Bernard Sachs and sculpture with Chuck Waldek at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

A parallel life as a folk musician and longtime purveyor of musical instruments (Artichoke Music, 1981-2006) seasoned the passion and - often humorous - expression in Steve's art.

Along with his illustrations, Steve's energetic imagination compels him to repurpose and recycle musical instrument parts and found objects from which to build playable sculptures. This aspect was instigated by a commission from the McCarter Theatre to create a cigar-box violin for a stage production. Simultaneously, the gift of a guitar made by a Zimbabwean boy from a tin can, bicycle brake cable and a single plank of wood inspired a dedicated exploration in sculpture, sound and visual art in one-of-a-kind playable sculptures, each with a distinctive voice of its own.

Steve Einhorn's work is exhibited in galleries, museums and private and traveling shows. When Steve's not in his art studio, he tours with wife and music mate, Kate Power.
