Announcement   Quilted Cat Designs started as an outlet of my creative passion. I love fabric! My purses are one of a kind and each item is unique in that the fabric dictates the outcome of the project. I don't mass produce so grab it when you see it, it might not be there when you come back. I love to make everything from purses to garments to quilts to everything else that pops in my head. Special orders are welcome, just contact me.

Nancy Halvorsen is a major favorite of mine. I'm slowly building a small stash to make a big quilt.

About

What next?

First, I sewed and made gifts for family and friends, then small craft shows and I mean "craft" as in bad church kind, to sewing for others and getting paid for the work, to being accepted into really nice jury art shows. The website developed into a blog and then onto trying to sell online.

It's been an adventure. I worked for 20 years in Human Resources and sewing was my "therapy" after dealing with all the people issues of the day. Then I started contract teaching at a local sewing store in the evenings and eventually started to work there and hung up my HR hat. That was in 2005.

Since then it has been about me focusing on trying to make a living out of my talent. It hasn't been easy and I'm still learning, but it is getting there. My husband is supportive, but doesn't always understand how my crazy head works. He's the computer expert of the household, but forget blogs, embroidery software and Etsy, that's not his thing.

I try to make items that are one of a kind. My head doesn't work in mass production. Many of my purse come from just sewing pieces together and whatever size it comes out that's the size of the bag. I often, don't work from a pattern. I may make something once from a pattern, but then I change it. I also like to use things not for there intended use. Like vintage table cloths into skirts and jackets. Napkin rings become rings on a purse.

I do some screen printing and would like to get into doing more fabric dying. There are so many aspects to fabric, embellishments and treatments that I don't think I will ever get all the things I want to do done.

Designer, fabriholic, creative and sometimes a little crazy. That would probably be how people would describe me and my addiction to fabric. Diets don't help and there isn't any 12 step programs!

Welcome to Quilted Cat Designs and Tales From the Sewing Room!

I've been sewing for as long as I can remember, so long that I can't even remember what my first sewing project was! Early on I just sewed for myself and made gifts for family and friends. It was my husband who was the one who said " you have to do something with all this". So after a few early craft shows and him setting up a very simple website it went from there.

The "quilted cat" part came from passion for quilting and the cat from our various kitties that we have had over the years. They have always been my "sewing assistants" by sleeping in the chair while I stitch, moving things around or wanting to hold down fabric.

My designs are mostly one of a kind. Things happen in my head, which can be a scarey place sometimes. That craziness has now developed into doing high end art/craft events in the summer/fall, writing a blog (which I now manage not hubby) www.quiltedcatdesigns.com and now selling online. It's been quite an evolution, so I hope you enjoy the ride and my creations.

Looking for something special, just let me know!
