Jewelry designers, heads up! This purple stone clasp is a winner. Big enough to be a focal link, too. astonished
This glass and silver handmade clasp started out as a glass bead that I’d previously made but hadn’t used. I love that it’s not huge but still packs a big punch as a unique closure for your jewelry piece in the stead of a mass produced finding.
This shows the clasps embedded in a moldable plastic I use to hold them secure while I form the silver around the stones. Next step is to heat it until it’s soft enough to remove the pieces, and then give a final hand polish.

Video summary: I build my chains starting with wire, formed into circles, and then solder every single link so they're durable.

I've had a wild art making ride. I just can't help myself. From having my own "craft store" in the basement at age 10, through art school, to now, it's always been a compulsion to make things.

While finishing up a graduate degree (not in art) I was at a crossroads, trying to decide what I wanted to do with my life.

At that time, a friend posed the most basic question ever. "What do you WANT to do?"

I answered simply, "I want to make things and sell them."

Her to-the-point, genius, response set me on my course, "So? Why don't you do that?"

Since that time I've made and sold painted boxes, polymer clay beads and jewelry, glass beads and jewelry, glass micro mosaics, glass murrine, and most recently silver, glass and stone jewelry, and embroidered patches.

I've always thought that I really need to stick with just one thing to be a proper artist, but l recently gave into my desires and decided that I'm going to go where my heart leads me at any give time. It's probably what I should have been doing all along but, it's never too late to start following your heart.

In my pieces I hope that you can feel the sense of joy and excitement I get when I'm in that creative headspace--that you can feel the energy that goes into every piece. When I'm in that state of flow it feels like everything is right in my world...and I wish that for you, as well.
