I have this on right now, seriously. It is so amazing! I have recently decided to be a rebel and stop looking so teacherly now that I am retired and I am going sort of bohemian. And I bought this necklace. It is so beautiful!! And if you have not read the story of the shop, please do so. I am a mathematician and I feel a kindred spirit with the ladies of the shop so I feel like I am carrying some serious STEM and art mojo with me. It arrived very quickly and I think you can tell that I am VERY HAPPY!!!!!

About

One of a kind family ties

In our family, love for craft and art is passed on through generations. Margita’s mother sewed and embroidered, her home was full of handmade beddings and tablecloths. And just like her mother taught her, Margita taught us, her daughters, to do the same. Living in a socialist country, there weren’t any fancy stores, but we were able to travel abroad. Margita travelled a lot, and she always brought home lovely fabrics and yarns and made great outfits for her family. We remember her knitting while watching movies on TV, or the sound of a sewing machine, mixed with music, filling our home. We were always encouraged to make things by ourselves.

When Margita retired, she discovered weaving. Soon after she became a member of The Association of Applied Arts Artists and Designers of Serbia. Margita and Marijana already worked together when they had a hand woven accessories and clothing shop in our home town of Novi Sad from 1989 until 1998. In the meantime we continued to make things for ourselves, family and friends. For a long time we had dreamt of having our own internet shop, and when Marijana and Aleksandra lost their jobs, we decided to give it a try. After a lot of obstacles, we opened our Etsy shop September 5th 2011.

We're using a variety of traditional techniques – crocheting, knitting, hand weaving, embroidery, wet and needle felting – to create timeless pieces rich in textures and colors. We often include vintage beads and buttons hand covered in vintage fabrics. Bamboo beads are made by Margita from bamboo growing in our garden. Our work is inspired by everyday life - family, nature, art (from prehistoric cave painters, Da Vinci, naïve artists and crafters from around the world, including rug makers from Pirot in Serbia, Serbian artists Milena Pavlović Barilli and Ilija Bašičević Bosilj, Picasso, Frida Kahlo, to Missoni and Vivienne Westwood...). We are also inspired by travels, movies, music, books... as well as materials we use.

We work at our homes. All items in our shop are unique, and designed and handmade with love and care by either Margita or Marijana or Hristina. When products are finished, Aleksandra picks them up, takes photos and lists them. She also answers convos and emails and is responsible for packaging and shipment.
