About

What's In A Name?

People often ask how a shop got its name and there's always a story. So here's ours.

Once upon a time...

Stars has a very loving and wonderful family, but sometimes he would like to have time to himself for napping. Using his powers of psychic persuasion, Stars willed Shayla to start a blog. Surely that would keep her busy he thought!

So Shayla, having suddenly decided to take up blogging, decided that what she really loved was fabric and creating things with it. Dolls, scrap quilts, clothing and such. But what could she use to connect all those lovely things together? And that's when it hit her--rags! Rag dolls, scraps are rags, the rag industry. It's all rags! Thus the blog Raggie Girls was born.

However, it didn't take Stars long to realize that a single blog would not keep his Shayla occupied for long. So once again, he used his super powers to convince Shayla to create things for others (see, he's thinking of you too!).

But, Shayla likes to have company and Stars does not like his naps interrupted. So doing what any little sister would...she pestered her awesome big sister to join in her fun!

Once Marla agreed to be a part of their merry band, the Raggie Girls shop could officially open. Together they weaseled their mother into joining their merriment.

Stars, seeing the growing success of his plan, rewarded himself with cheese.

And they lived happily ever after.

Additional policies and FAQs
FAQ

The item I purchased is a slightly different color than what is shown on my monitor, why?

Please be aware that not all monitors show color exactly the same due to differences in lighting, construction, calibration, etc. I cannot guarantee that the color you see accurately matches my color-calibrated monitor.

Can I make copies of your patterns for my friends?

No, the purchase of a pattern or e-pattern entitles the purchaser to one copy of that pattern. Patterns may not be redistributed, shared, or sold in any manner. They are copyrighted under federal law. Please refer individuals interested in obtaining a copy to the Raggie Girls shop so that they can purchase their own copy.

Can I use your pattern to make items for resale?

Patterns are for personal use and small cottage businesses only, not mass production. I do issue usage licenses for businesses creating my items in amounts larger than 100 per year and am happy to consider requests for permission to use the pattern to make items for sale. Please convo me with your detailed request for consideration.

If you are a handcrafter and do wish to use my patterns to make items for sale, please include a link to my etsy shop and the following statement "This item made using an original Raggie Girls pattern." I would love it if you dropped me a note showing me your creation---it encourages me to create more patterns. Please make sure that items are not used in any vulgar, pornographic or obscene manner.

Is your home smoke or pet free?

Our home and any areas used to create items for sale at Raggie Girls is smoke-free. There is, however, a border collie who lives with us and closely supervises our crafting activities. If you have allergies, please be aware of this.

Why are there two sections for Dolls/Softies and two for Doll Clothing in your shop?

New Federal law (the CPSIA) prohibits the selling of items intended for children 12 years or younger containing components testing at over 100 ppm of lead and/or over 90 ppm of certain phalates. (Don't be scared, this is a really small amount!) They also require that a manufacturer (that's me) either have documentation from suppliers of compliance and 3rd party testing, or that I myself have 3rd party testing done on the components. Anything in the Children's sections absolutely meets current CPSIA requirements. (Please read item descriptions for appropriate age brackets.)

Sometimes, however, an item cannot, for various reasons, meet these requirements. (Usually because the supplier refuses to test the component as "they do not market it for children", and I simply cannot afford the thousands of dollars it would take.) Maybe its the rhinestones, the metal buttons, a painted surface or something as insignificant as a sew-on snap. Maybe there are just too many tiny parts for me to feel comfortable with the idea of a child playing with the item. I want you to feel absolutely safe with any of our products that you give your child, so if I can't get a guarantee from the maker of the component, or I don't feel it would be safe enough for a child to play with, it doesn't get placed in the child friendly sections. Anything like this automatically goes into the Collector's and Art Doll sections instead.

We also like to create especially fancy and exquisite creations sometimes that take a great deal of time which is reflected in the cost. So we separate it for your convenience in finding that one of a kind treasure within your chosen budget. Some creations are simply are not suitable for children's play activities.

Detailed descriptions of each item are given, however, if you still have concerns or questions, please contact us---we don't mind answering questions about our products.

Do you take requests?

While we cannot always meet every custom item request, we are happy to discuss this with you and consider the request made. Custom orders must be paid for in advance.
