On Etsy since 2009

It took me quite a while to understand why I always rejoiced when my mother brought home hand-me-downs or why I always used to follow my father around as he repaired broken furniture or objects instead of just replacing them.
Loving items that have a history is in my blood and it first and formost took form in the clothes i wore. I am the owner and curator of this shop, but my love for vintage has been such a defining part of who I am because of my family. This is the story of my shop:

Rakshniya Vintage has one of a kind, unique pieces that were made when quality was more important than quantity. This shop is about being able to incorporate vintage into your daily wardrobe (even if you don't consider yourself a full blown vintage fashionista) and I put great emphasis on collecting items in sizes that fit all women. The most popular sizes in the shop are medium and large. I want women around the world to be able to feel special and express themselves with their clothing and accessories the same way I always have. You don't have to be extraverted. I am more often a wallflower, but the way I dress speaks volumes about who I am, what I appreciate (good tailorship, texture, patterns) and the messege I want to send out.

In my late teens my sister started working in a second hand shop called "Rak Sahniya". "Rak" & "Shniya" is in Hebrew and literally means "only" & "second." It's a pun with two meanings – one: a phrase saying "just a second", two: in our case (if used in the literal sense) "only second (hand)." My mother befriended the owner, one thing led to another and they decided to be business partners. In August 2014 the shop closed after 11 years and after being quite frankly one of the biggest and best second hand shops in the country.
During those years my father repaired and renovated endless items, my sister and I worked on and off in the shop and I got to join my parents and my mother's business partner on their visits to people's homes, rummaging through their and their loved ones closets, cupboards and storage.
Since the shop had such a huge clientele most of which brought in clothes and items on a weekly basis, somewhere in 2009 I got very frustrated with the fact that a lot of really beautiful and rare vintage items weren't reaching enough people because there wasn't enough room to keep everything for a long time. Then I discovered Etsy and a whole new journey started.

I live a very modest life in the big city, I can't affored a studio. Ever since I opened my shop I make a 2 hours long round trip to my parents house and photograph each item in the front porch of my childhood home. My mother helps me without end with laundry, small mending and gives her opinion on items I select for the shop. My sister is my hat model and my dad is always there to make me smile and cheer me up while I run around styling, photographing, cleaning, packing and so on... They have always been my biggest support system and they love hearing about every single sale I make. It's not the easiest way to run a shop but it's worth it. I was taught to believe in hard work and everything I do in and for this shop is because of my passion for it.

I hope you like what you see, please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Additional policies and FAQs
Some items might have flaws. I make an effort to acquire and deliver clean, flawless items. However – these items were loved by their previous owners for many years and so some wear and tear may appear. I try to clean and mend whatever I can but I do not repair every tear. Every flaw will be noted on the item's individual page. If something is unclear to you from the pictures taken of the item and you require more information and photographs, please contact me.

Once you have received the item, any repairs or upkeep are your responsibility. Quality is important to me, and I would never list something that is on the verge of falling apart, however I cannot know how long items will stay intact. Treat them well and they will treat you well.

Handling your garment –
I deliver clean items. I recommend you hand-wash your garment due to its delicate condition. Remember- these are items made many years ago and some are in a fragile state. Also, searching the web for instructions on how to wash your vintage item is a great way to get more specific information, tricks and tips. I would be happy to answer questions you might have.

All items come from a cat loving home. Although our cat is not allowed near the vintage items, and all items are washed and cleaned, if you have allergies please remember to take the appropriate measures to insure your health and happiness upon recieving your purchase.
