When I was very young, my sister and I begged our dad to drive us down to the city market in Kansas City so we could peddle flower pens and hemp necklaces. Selling things I had made by hand was intoxicating, and I decided that I would always be a maker. Since then, I have always had a crafty business project tucked in my bag. I have carefully embroidered tiny things while bumping along the road to Tibet, and I have lounged on beaches from Thailand to Michigan carefully sorting jewelry findings. Even when I had desk jobs, my crafty business materials were always there, tucked in a drawer, ready to be poured over between spreadsheets and conference calls.

When my daughter was born in 2010, I took a break from my bohemian ways, but I remained a maker. In 2011, I opened a small brick and mortar in Denver carrying all local design. I wanted to share all I had learned with aspiring makers, and a lovely community developed around the shop.

In 2015, my husband and I decided to return to our roots in Kansas City. I naturally kept on making things, but between craft fairs and online orders, I started to miss that inspirational, collaborative part of what I did. I didn't like being a one person factory and sales team; I wanted to craft community.

So, I started a facebook group for local makers, jumped into consulting and coaching, picked up lots of teaching gigs, and finally, finally found what I love the most! I still make some of my favorite things, but custom work and helping other reach their dreams is what makes me happiest.

Instead of churning out hundreds of the same thing over and over for wholesale orders, my weeks are spent coaching entrepreneurs one day, sewing a custom dress the next, a bit of jewelry making, a crafty party or 2, and then squeezing in a few new crafty kits and other fun things for my line.
