Our new adventure
Hello
I present you my new adventure! Ranch H and J opened its doors in 2012 as an equestrian center for equestrian training and boarding.
In 2013, I started researching the alpaca, at first I just wanted to have an animal that we didn't see often. In the fall of 2014, after more than a year of research I acquired 3 females and 1 male, and I went crazy, I love them! Our first mowing was done in May 2015 with 9 alpacas. Then we went to take our fiber to the spinning mill and I received my first skeins of alpaca fiber in October 2015.
We currently have 33 alpacas: including 3 alpacas suri, 1 llama and 1 huarizo (llama-alpaca mixture). We seek to increase and diversify our herd to have a high quality fiber of all natural colors. Yes, we now want to do the transformation of the fiber, my goal is eventually to do it entirely by myself, so as not to send it to the spinning mill anymore. On November 11, 2016 we acquired our farm in L'Ascension, we will now be able to start producing more and more efficiently, since we are now at home.
I have been knitting and hooking for a long time but I continue to learn about it every day. Alpaca fiber is a fiber that breathes, since it is a hollow fiber that is very hot. It is the only fiber that is hypoallergenic and has 22 natural shades of different colors, this is the main reason why we do not dye our wool. Some skeins have been mixed with merino (sheep, can cause allergies), with silk or with bamboo. If our alpaca fiber has been mixed, we include it in the description of our products.
All our skeins are identified by the name of the alpaca from which they come, so when you buy a skein of wool you know who produced it, we can even send you a photo of the alpaca in question, just ask us.
Thank you for following us and encouraging us in this adventure!
